NEW YORK, March 25 (Reuters) - An unknown volume of oilleaked from BP Plc's Whiting, Indiana, refineryinto nearby Lake Michigan on Monday afternoon, the IndianaDepartment of Environmental Management confirmed on Tuesday.
The leak started from a cooling water outfall at therefinery at 5:30 p.m. EDT (2130 GMT) on Monday afternoon, saidDan Goldblatt, a public information officer with the department.
The leak was contained as of early Tuesday morning andofficials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, theU.S. Coast Guard and the Indiana environmental regulator were onsite, Goldblatt said. (Reporting by Selam Gebrekidan)
