Hi Dan, well I had no intentions of selling this year anyway, but it reached 142 last year and was hoping this year we could have gone a little higher then next year a little higher again reducing the losses on the capital, if that makes any sense, I have added a cple more dividend shares this year as the prices seemed quite low, think that's the best way to go for me collecting dividends while we are waiting for improvement on the share prices, It's still possible for Vodafone to go higher, but should it drop down again, I will be thinking of making a top up here with the hope of increasing the dividend yield and lowering my average, I'm not one for regular buying and selling that just doesn't work for me, so find it easier to try and improve on what I already have instead, hopefully i won't be going to jail, as the wife is looking for holidays right now, probably going end of June beginning of July before the schools break up
Fingers crossed we can get back on the ladder again
Hi robleo. As you say It's only money? & you do still get £200 for passing go? Don't you? Don't do a Boris though ? Becker that is, & land up in jail? (It is much more than £50 to get out now days)! As for the other Boris? who knows? I am very edgy about tomorrow, so any re assurance would be nice. Soton, I hope you have a great holiday in Norway, but my wife is more into sun, sand, & sangria than Norway, so although I would love to go there, on a cruise perhaps, it's unlikely. Sorry if I am monopoly' ising this forum??!! Sorry, showing my age again, but they don't come up with games as good as that any more?! We just have make do with the stock market instead!
118.45 for me this week. Sorry!!
Hello mole-man, Your post is very welcome to me if correct, because it saves me working it all out. But I would like to point out if your figures are correct you have come with vods tangible net asset value, of about 1.24, far higher than most would think. The intangible net asset value however is considered to be much higher than the tangible net asset value, of course. I think both you & me realise that meshtrader is probable much better at multiple differential equations that he refer'd to in his post, than complex company evaluations. Of course as you know vods tangible net asset value is considered to be far lower than 1.24. Vod is worth what the market values it at. Of course it may be undervalued,as I think,or way undervalued as mesh thinks? Or it may be fair or over valued as you probable think? Anyway as you know I am very positive about vodafone, although it is having a bad run lately. You, I guess are far less positive, but at least your posts make sense. Boo hiss.
So they sell the parts for 100bn, add in the cash, repay the loans, divi up the remainder amongst shares outstanding and it comes to 124p a share. Funny that...
meshtrader. What is this name calling you refer to? You mentioned a bunch of cowboys, & BankofPhuckingAmerica, hardly sounds like the words of someone who has educated them self. I don't know why my age should have any relevance, I don't know how old you are, & frankly I don't care, I just didn't agree with your post, that's all, sorry mate. You said in your post "the sum of the parts is worth in excess of 100billion if they were to sell the lot" So I was merely pointed out, for that to be the case, you obviously need a buyer,or buyers to sell it to, otherwise your valuation is totally meaningless? Who says it's worth over 100billion, or shall we all just take your word for it? Nothing would please me more than to believe vod is worth more than 100billion of course, but it would help if you came up with some evidence? I do of course agree that the current sp undervalues vod, but it might help if you don't exaggerate. As for me sorting myself out & getting a life, I could say the same about you, but why would I? It's a totally pointless comment, & is hardly a comment to expect from someone who is educated & doesn't like name calling ,as you put it?
For someone who appears to be close to his retiring age, you are certainly not demonstrating the kind of life wisdom that should accompany such passing of time. What a shame! For the record, name calling does not fit on these boards.
Allow me to comment on your premises and statements in your argument;
1. "give us a break?" - are you the chairman of this commentary board? Are you the elected nominee to opine on behalf of others?
2. "this is the stock market, You sound like a cowboy, Stop as this bull ****? " - (i)Thanks for reminding me and others that we are talking about the "stock market". (ii) You seem to know a lot about me. I suppose you are equipped with higher powers than us mere mortals. (iii) If you believe behind the counter wheeler dealers are not taking you to the cleaners on a daily basis in this "stock market", then you have certainly, and sadly, not learned much about the markets.
3. "We are all cowboys, trying to make money, so don't pretend otherwise?" - A false statement. Interesting how you label people who make an effort to legally extract profit from an investment as cowboys.
4. "I agree about vodafone & I am a big ,supportive / share holder, so please come up with some constructive comments?" - Sadly, you don't seem to comprehend the mechanics propelling the markets and the role its agents play in it. Nothing for us to discuss. It's like asking me to teach you multiple variable differential equations when you just learned 1+1=2
5. "So, vod sells for 100 billion? to who? Complete nonsense? If any of you wise guys have a better plan than Nick Read, then let us know please, because if not you are just a load of know nothing idiots." - (i) In my comment, I was referring to its parts being worth in excess of 100billion. (ii) The market is made of different opinions. You may find it ridiculous that I find its parts to be worth a lot more than the current market estimations. As for mr Read, his days are numbered and activists investors such as Gardell will take of that. CFO's rarely are optimum candidates to lead telecom, tech, science, engineering companies. They may maintain the status quo, but they are rarely visionaries, simply because of their fundamental lack of appreciation of the underlying components thrusting their respective businesses. Best and most recent example is Tim Cook. Nothing revolutionary has come out of apple since Steve's passing. Mr Read is a number cruncher who loves to play the diplomat/politician game.
My final remarks, UK suffers from weak shareholders across the board, hence the relative weakness in visions and ownership.
And Daniel, sort yourself out and get a life! My advise, start by educating yourself first.
Hi Dan, well that's telling us all you bugger lol, I do like being realistic, and i don't know who could do a better job, the share price as you know has dropped since 2018, and I'm sure there are many reasons for this, so although i don't know if Nick and his gang are doing a good job, going on the share price, I also have no reason to believe they are doing a good job either is that fair ? maybe a good one to stay neutral on, will just have to wait and see which way the share price is going, maybe worth me making a top up perhaps at some time
Bit of a rainy day today, hopefully be better tomorrow
good luck guys whatever happens it's only money

Vod must be the stock of choice for the speculators /hedge funds. its a risk free 5% a week raid . What commercial logic is there which allows the FCA and the LSE to tolerate these scalpers creating a false market in the share price ? why are the Pension Funds and Life Saving producers not raising any questions or asking for an investigation into these thieves who are putting serious investment in the Uk at risk?
A bunch of cowboys who are setting certain funds and their own dark pool up for percentage gains. "Hey Mike, I am down on the quarter, fix me a bunch of quick traders mate. I will cover you next time and send you trade orders your by more than 100% of current volume we do business with you at BankofPhuckingAmerica"
The sum of parts of this business is in excess of 100billion if they were to sell the whole lot. Just keep adding at these ridiculous price point. Take it as a free advise from me.
This is a solid business and unique on a global scale.
High in last year is 142.74p so seems ridiculous share price dropped 4.33%. I always wonder if they tell their clients to sell before they put the boot in.
Vodafone (NASDAQ:VOD) is among Friday's biggest losers among Communications stocks, down 6.5%, alongside a downgrade to Neutral at BofA.
There have been "disappointments" in the strategy since the company took a more proactive stance at the halfway mark of its fiscal year, analyst David Wright and team say.
There are still "inorganic options" to boost returns in the UK and Spain, and to "pursue value unlock in Holland and Towers. But none are straightforward, with other interested parties," BofA says.
Meanwhile, Germany needs more than just operational improvement. Execution there has been mixed, and that's led to management changes - but investment is needed (to the tune of €10 billion-plus) to future-proof the network and restore its mobile network positioning against hotter competition.
Energy cost headwinds likely limit EBITDA growth in 2023 to about 2% - and also drag on an unhedged 2024, BofA says. The EBITDA growth target and free cash flow growth targets no longer look achievable, it adds.
Accounting for a German capital-expenditures reboot, it's cutting its price target to 148 pence/share from 188 pence. For the American Depositary Receipts (VOD), that's an $18.51 target (22% upside)
Vodafone falls 7% as BofA downgrades, noting needed Germany fix
csdi, I just had a little flutter of £300 on poly, if i can double my money and cover trading costs i will take it and run, may just as easily lose it all though, A bit strange with psn good results and yet it drops, think it will come good though will be quite happy to hold that one, good thing with Lloyds is they are now paying a dividend while waiting for that elusive 70p can't see it happening this year too much stuff going on, think it will be a year for collecting dividends whilst waiting for recovery
best of luck
Hi Rob
Just got 500 shares in POLY at average cost around 294p.
For me it is a binary bet. Either lose the lot or get 4xbagger ish.
If the divi can be restored in august at some level, then that will really give the SP a boost.
Very much a wait and see. I would be tempted to sell 20% at £4 if it got there in next week or two, on the assumption it would likely fall back, repeating it's behaviour since the huge fall.
I've only got two shares now, with my other being the big divi payer PSN - which is also in the doldrums - but that is expected with any share I purchase.
Must say LLOY was a waste of effort for trading idea, so maybe VOD will come into play for my trading idea in due course.
GL my friend
Cheers - C
csdi, not as much luck as you need with poly lol, only joking put a few quid on it myself, will probably regret it though ?
danielh - " Have you any idea what has caused this big fall in vod?"
A broker downgrade. BoA downgraded them from buy to neutral and reduced the target price from 188p to 148p.
Thanks Mikey, and I'm not taking sides with you or Dan, sometimes i find you both amusing and other times i want to knock your heads together, I did try to point out the share price has been on a big downward slope since 2018, and the ceo and board of directors surely have to take some responsibility for this, that is what they are paid for after all, I can understand why theirs a lack of confidence, hopefully they will make some good decisions to improve the sp, and as they say provide value to shareholders we will see where that goes
have a good bank holiday weekend
A four day week; and start of a new month often sees short term rises.
So I am going for 123p.
GLA vodders - you need it LOL
Cheers - CSDI
Nope as I said in an earlier post I kept 1 share , and I am not excited about it going down - as you know i worked there for 22 years . It was a great company to work for but the current CEO is not suitable to run the company . He has done nothing but increase debt and it is clear the markets have no faith in him . I was proud to work for the company despite what some people may think but even employees should be allowed to vent their anger at the management . There are some amazing people working for the company and all Read is doing is running it into the ground . I dont have a crystal ball and dont know who would be better at the job but there must be plenty of people out there that are and value shareholders ( even my 1 share ) - until Read goes or a major deal goes through to reduce at least some of the debt this share is going no where fast .
sotonspike. I hope you enjoy your holiday. It might be the last one you can afford at this rate. Have you any idea what has caused this big fall in vod? I would make a general enquiry on here, but all I will get is the usual sack Nick Read, knee jerk nonsense. But if anybody on here can give an intelligent, constructive, opinion that would be helpful. Worrying times?
So mikey you say you have sold all your shares and you seem to be getting excited about the prospect of it dropping right down, it does all seem a bit strange
just had a look at the states OMG take cover come Tuesday morning.....
just spent all my funds on the holiday.....but yes a great buying opportunity......
