'Ultimately, it's for you to decide whether the reduced price you pay with Vodafone is worth the reduction in options and the risk that you may suffer from poor customer service if you have an issue'
Thinking about it, how can VOD compete with BTs accumulative competitive advantage, deep roots and rich overhead without investment that cant pay back? I am convinced the vod 3 merger will be approved to get the scale benefits of mobile and be a catalyst for another liberty global type deal.

Hi trek, getting all that stuff to work in your favour takes a lot of time and skill, so well done for that, when i buy it drops and when i sell it goes up, to be fair though it does work ok for me sometimes but not always, with hindsight i could have sold several of my shares last year such as dlg and lgen and vod and more recently lloyds when they were back in profit and bought them back for a lot less, really thought 2023 might have been the turning point but it seems not, maybe i need to try another strategy instead of buy and hold
cheers mate and best of luck
Hi Rob,
When shares like DEC are falling and as an investor you are still convinced of the story. It’s worth considering selling and buying back cheaper.
I held DEC from 120 and am now at 94p average with the same number of shares. I have been buying on the down days and selling on the up days. Sometimes only for £100 profit! I also exited completely once and bought all back cheaper.
Likewise at PAY I started at 550 and am now at 472 but there I have more shares atm but am confident there will be a lift soon and I will go back to equal weight.
It helps that I only pay 3.99 a trade so it’s the stamp and spread that you have to consider.
If 90p goes at VOD I will sell some stock with a view to buying at 88p. Then sell as soon as that trade is back in profit etc.
I try and work the same number of shares but I always keep a bit of cash as well to cover a position and put in if it has a v low intra day again to hopefully sell for small profit.
If worse comes to worse I sell completely and come back later which is what I have done here several times and been lucky making a few % each time.
At MNG I bought 177 and sold down over 200p and exited before the xd as I thought it would tank after!
You can see my comments on YU. I sold there the day before the results and bought back in after expecting a drop after a good run. I have now nearly doubled my money there and am buying again under 600 to sell some at 850.
Of course all this only works if a stock comes back up else you still loose on the bottom line! I fully appreciate it’s not for everyone as it takes time. It’s just another way to invest until hopefully there is a cushion and we can all just switch off and take the divi’s!
Good luck

I also feel we may quickly go down to 85p. I could sell other stuff at a loss and set a Vod buy limit at 85.1 meaning it will either go to 85.2 and then go back up or plummet past it.
85p for me please roofer.
Trek, thanks for that information always good to get new ideas and diversify, Dec is one I'm about to invest in, but of course it's a recovery stock hopefully what Vodafone will be from this current price, one point i was trying to make though to some posters is the majority of the stock market is doing badly at the moment not only Vodafone, for instance had you bought dec back in July you would be feeling a bit sad about it now, biggest concern for me though if vod sp doesn't start recovering then a possible dividend cut, hopefully a recovery is not too far away
fingers crossed for that

‘ does anyone have any shares that are making money at the moment?’
Yu is one I have. Others like ECOR and DEC seem to have hopefully turned but YU is recovering after profit taking on their results. It’s v volatile though as only 17m shares. Buys under 600p should see +800p again at interims.

At a price point of 2, I would be a seller not a buyer!
People have been saying its a no brainer all the way down from £2 :)
Added 9% to my holding at 90.47. Will keep adding if sustained at these levels. A no brainer.
If you look at the full text of his statements, clearly his words were taken out of context.
" “There is only going to be one national network” was part of a broader discussion about the truly national ambition Openreach has – both urban and rural – and the progress they’re making towards that. It was not in any way a comment about other builders.
“Why do you need multiple providers?”, was preceded with (but not reported): “If you are a CP, you would probably prefer one wholesaler with one technical solution, if they can give you the geographic coverage you want...” It was therefore about potential CP preference, not the broader market.
“No one else has got a machine anywhere near ours. It’s?.?.?.?unstoppable.” This was in answer to a question on the scale of ambition and my confidence in Openreach’s ability to deliver a truly nationwide network.
When asked about the likely future shape of the market, I said I believed there would probably be two players with major footprints – BT Group and VM-O2 – and then a number of alt nets who have built strong businesses. I then gave the example of [?] which has five builders, to say that inevitably that this kind of overbuild could “end in tears” for some. Again, it was not a comment about the whole market and does not reflect the wider context in which it was delivered."

It's open house on BT bashing by the Altnets, but as soon as BT says something they don't like, they throw their toys out of the pram.
This delay is political theatre, I'll be gob smacked if OFCOM prevent Openreach from competing on pricing. Clearly Openreach have been extremely careful in designing the Equinox offers, I doubt OFCOM would have any justification to block the offer.
Fleccy,
The market is acting like a headless chicken. Vodafone just increased their broadband prices for all customers by 10% in the Netherlands. The ramifications of such price hikes are massive as perviously noted. so happy to accumulate. A 10% increase of prices for 50% of annual revenue will result in additional 2.5biilion pure cash. Happy to keep adding at these ridiculous levels cause once the repricing comes, it will leave many in its dust.
Back to the 80’s we go - no wonder nobody has been appointed as the new CEO - nobody wants the job at this pile of ****
I'm out and walking away, more or less flat for my four months effort.
It's all gone Pete tongue out there, anything with long dated debt is foooked for the foreseeable.
Just averaged back in at a tad under 94p. See another trading opportunity once CEO announced. Thinking 102/103 achievable then sell into the news, again!
I like to trade a basket of high yield stocks coz if you get the wrong side there is usually a divi or you can play one off agains the other to escape. It’s something that I have ended up discovering rather than by design. E.g had MNG from 179 and sold from 220 down to 206 and out and didn’t wait for the xd. Then put some of the money in here.
Fingers crossed!
