Brexit has no interaction with the sp for vod, more the poor handling of society by the ruling tory and Eton mess, at least they pay the dividend in us dollars we may actually get a good payout still
It has everything to do with brexit. EU represents over 60 pc of our total trade, we helped build most of the rules that governed trading with the bloc, we are now a rule taker, business has become more difficult more expensive and for things like food exports almost impossible, trade is now all friction, Northern Ireland mess,. How’s that for starters. We are viewed by rest of world as a self harming basket case ( it’s why most countries don’t have referendums ) and we no longer have much of a voice as we did when part of a huge trading bloc. Factor in the loss of free movement of Labour now pushing up prices and down on productivity. Should be a vote of no confidence soon and inshallah the tories will be gone for the next 20 years. UBS described the Tory party as a doomsday cult this morning, hysterical. Sad cold wet run down shxtty little island with crxp politics and idiots allowed to vote getting poorer by the day. Sterling collapse just the start and expect 7.5 pc rates by March. Terminal ftse below where it was 23 years ago. Shocking. Still a short tho. Come back Tony Blair.
I was dead against brexit, but what has brexit got to do with the fall of the £ against the dollar? I would stick to watching back to future if I were you, & leave politics to others.
Faicj. So are you saying if we had a labour, or some other government, the vod sp would be higher? Or did you just fancy having a pop at the Tory government?
Sterling decline has nothing to do with Brexit. All global currencies are collapsing against the dollar. The euro was doing worse than gbp until end of last week when the gbp had an accelerated fall entirely linked to tax reduction policy. We stand alone as a nation looking to tackle the economic pain of inflation by stimulating growth. Are we right? We’ll find out soon.
Tax cuts at least don’t require money printing.
Meanwhile in Europe they’ll need to deal with the economic fallout of far right Italians, still debt burdened Greeks and a dumb energy policy. I’d rather be out than in.

Am I late I’m going for 112.6p
Tower sale now probably now needed to keep SP parity what with everything else going on currently. £1.01 for me please this week.
I can’t see anyone coming in for a takeover, VOD generates a lot of its income from Germany & the latest Reuters headline of “ German economic downturn deepens in September, outlook grim” doesn’t bode well. If the money ain’t coming in the debt can’t be serviced.
More like years of Tory rule
With the current gbp/usd @ 1.03, the Americans will be circling vod and many other uk listed companies.
Effectively sterling has lost over 30% since the start of the year, making vod nominally cheaper than the lows of 2008. What a disaster brexit wrought upon us. The current events are simply consequential effects, i.e. bad policies and politics. A bit like the back to the future where Marty returned to his home only to see his city in chaos and flames. If we were to point to one single event triggering all this mess, it would be, in my opinion, assigned to brexit.
So yes, well done to all brexiters. Enjoy your fall and pain.
I’m recon 1.17.2 this week with the possible tower sale news!
I don't know if a sale will add 13p, or whatever, but spinning off an asset forces the market to look at the valuations of all the component parts of a company; If this is worth that, then that may be worth this scenario. The market currently seems incapable of valuing telecom companies based on the assets, anything that underlines an asset valuation may well be a good thing.
"Surely it is a very valuable asset that vod should keep, otherwise why are the potential buyers so keen to buy it."
This isn't how cost cutting / business reorganising works.
You have to be brutal.
Dan/ Fleccy, I imagine Cevian want a simpler operating model with VOD [Brand] concentrating on their competency selling devices and services online/ in the high street. With more votes, Niel would like to see the network separation but also consolidation in 'markets'. If nothing else, all these sum of the part sales opportunities point to the SP being mispriced if PE/ Iliad etc are lining up to buy now.
As you have pointed out before, the MCB programme and volumes may well have depressed the price on bond conversion eg where the fund mandate doesnt allow holding equities. When the mcb have washed through, surely the SP will reflect the underlying values evidenced in auctions/ offers, otherwise I think VOD should sell the assets and concentrate on the Brand and the Services as the market isnt pricing them in.
Fleccy. & others. Do you think the sale would add 13.2p to the share price? I don't think so. Surely it is a very valuable asset that vod should keep, otherwise why are the potential buyers so keen to buy it.
Can you put me down for a tasty 113......Things must go up after the week we just had....
Thanks. I didn't know selling half their stake could add 13.2p to the share price and.... 'there is no timetable, but a deal could take place before the end of the year. Potential buyers include US buyout barons KKR, Global Infrastructure Partners and Swedish investment firm EQT'
Article reiterating what we already know.

No probs Roofer - just thought it would make things easier to find.
Keep up the good work - it's great to have a bit of fun and banter ... even if some think it is a waste of time.
Cheers - C
PS. Not sure if we can delete my thread to avoid duplication
Pretty much my thought Oldham, but even though we are near peak fear, we may still have to deal with a global capitualtion dump of assets before we can go up. The FED seem hell bent on destroying their economy, and for us it means months of uber strong dollar and imported inflation. We may have to go for some eye watering rate rises to defend the currency, or you end up with Turkey style collapse and 80% inflation.
Good to be aware of it so you don't over-react with the herd when it happens. The last thing to do is sell at the bottom of a capitulation dump..
