If vod buy back shares, they have to pay for them, so of course it comes out of the market cap, but if the sp rises because of that then the market cap is restored, or hopefully improved. This is all just common sense, so please just give us a break? You don't get anything for nothing. So move on please?

''AVIVA and TESCO did a return of capital, but then we ended up with less shares, did you not like that idea''
They returned cash to shareholders and did share consolidations. I accept whatever a BOD decide to do. They were both able to afford share buybacks in addition.
Vodafon's decision instead will be to invest some proceeds in purchasing assets valued at way below NAV.
Rob.. Come on mate, stick to the subject, I.E. vodafone please. It gets confusing otherwise??"!
These articles are just click bait. It’d be great if it gets back to £1 but the article just jumps around all over the place and, on balance, sounds more negative than positive in my opinion. You’d be no worse getting ChatGPT to pull something together.
LTI, AVIVA and TESCO did a return of capital, but then we ended up with less shares, did you not like that idea
Net debt has already been decreased substantial in recent times . Servicing the debt will be comfortably affordable . Companies borrow money to grow a business, and Vodafone have had debt for many years already. 4 Billion will be used for an investment in Vodafone shares, wiping out the right of Billions of shares to have a stake in future profitability, leaving it to be shared between far fewer remaining shares, increasing earnings per share .
May 14th may give more details about how the other future 8 Billion will be invested.
I would prefer investments in Vodafone shares as a priority over that of reducing debt whilst valuations are substantially below NAV
Is Vodafone using any of this divestment cash to pay down net debt, anyone else thinking they should be paying down the giant net debt.
''For me, buying back 21.5% of its stock could boost Vodafone shares significantly over the next 12 to 18 months''
A bit of a different view to those who think that buybacks will reduce market cap.
Very quiet on here tonight after a good recovery for the sp. We need to get back to 70 plus soon. Just because there are morons on here who want to take over this forum, please don't stop posting?.
20yr return +75% = A.P.R. 2.85% So not great. It is impossible however to work out the return on vod over 20 years because of .the complex nature of the verizon sale, share split, spec divs, etc. It depends what you did with the spec div, your verizon shares, mannesman, etc. etc. There is a lot of fake info out there about the historical vod share price, I know because I have extensive records of vod for most of the last 20 years or so. mannesman was very complex & a complete dissaster for vodafone.
Mole
''20 yr return +75%''
that's good - about the same time as I have been invested in Vodafone , although I never include dividends as part of a capital position. So my current capital position is that I would need a little rise from the current share price to get to an average share price.
I do not have a separate record for the Verizon - I can only assume that they had an automatic sell option for Verizon shares? the proceeds of which were amalgamated in my total capital returns figure that i used in my Vodafone records at the time when shares were also consolidated
Mole. You omitted to say "past performance is no indication of future performance". But interesting charts, although I think most of us new already that vod has been a very bad investment in the past.
Vod closing Sp 12th April

Mole, do you have a link for trading charts
Cheers
TradingView charts allow you to include dividends. Very handy for deciding if a div stock has been worth it.
So including divs, VOD
5 yr return -31%
Since VZ high -53%
10 yr return -47%
20 yr return +75%
SP500 inc divs 20yr return +570%
There are better ways to get an income than VOD divs.
67.98 please
71p for me please Roofer
68p for me please Bob
Thanks for your response. Think I may need to break the Excel out. Dividends from both over the years have been solid. Wondered if the divs have compensated for the reduction in share price.
Sorry that should read Utter Tripe.....
GutterSnipe. Do you post on here while you are having a ruby doo? Could explain a lot? Don't forget to wash your hands!!
Sotonspike. "Thank goodness for a bit of civility" I think it is catching on" Even L.S.I. is joining in? Anybody else who wants to join in & be civil? Sorry, no offence meant. Happy Monday.
