Basically the trial was a bit of a dud
There is the problem in black and white and why they cant sell AZ1656 as a covid treatment. Only slightly better health. Doubt the buyers will be clambering after this one, hence the SP.
1. Most study patients recovered and were discharged well from the hospital. Overall,
there was evidence that the health of the study patients treated with AZD1656 was
slightly better than patients treated with placebo.
This raises huge questions if this is true. The words 'slightly better' are used a lot which doesn't equate to a successful trial!!
The board are going to have a very uncomfortable AGM me thinks.
Exactly. It would appear it does not take much for a trial to be deemed a success. Vela and SGS need to come out and answer this at the AGM.
As stated previously it would appear that SGS appear to have marked their own homework on this. If this is the contract the BOD signed up to they have been duped and should all lose their positions.
I predict Jimmy will be silent for a while now.
What a ****er this has turned out to be. The document essentially contradicts all the RNS and news releases from Excalibur, SGS themselves and VELA. You can not polish a turd this big.
Agree with all. The BOD will have much to explain at the AGM
The one area of hope is that it may be used with other autoimmune conditions.
See below:
Researchers are also learning new information about how AZD1656 effects the
immune system and also how COVID-19 effects the immune system. This
information may be useful for treating other diseases
Probably take news to be honest, as no RNS being very sensitive news! Gla.
For Excalibur and SGS to exagerate the significance of the findings is questionable but understandable. For our BOD to have wagered a third of our cash with seemingly no control over anything is totally unforgivable. Can see no scenario now where they can keep their jobs.
How on earth, as this document published by SGS themselves indicates, can this trial be deemed to have been a success? Only because SGS positioned themselves, without any contractual contradictions from Vela, to helping themselves to our shares on their say. Gobsmacked and completely lacking in backbone from the BOD. Roll over and pay. Pretty f..ING angry to be honest.
Fake news??? It’s on the SGS website
Might explain why SGS sold their shares, why the SP has crumbled and why it’s taken an age to provide any form of positive information regarding the trial - because there isn’t any.
Saw this yesterday on SGS website. Does anyone know when it was posted?
However bad the news is still more buys on Vela.
# Trades 24
Vol. Sold 0
Sold Value £0.00
Vol. Bought 82,676,462
Bought Value £32,153.72
So why was they talking of commercialisation of the drug then!
Definitely not fake news at this is from the SGS website. Turns out that our BOD are actually worse at investing and making deals than most of us.
Like I said 2 day ago, i could accept that the trial and results where not great as nothing is without risks. It is the way its all played out. Apparently a success and immediately in discussions with a commercial partner . this is all rubbish, why would you buy something that only has a slightly better affect on people health.
And if these are the sort of financial arrangements that this BOD enter into how on earth can they be trusted. This share is overpriced with this sort of gullible infatuation with glory. What was promised, a gong for JN. Sorry, very cross.
Agree LordSutch. The SP and silence since results currently supports a failed trial
Also why would they state they are going to commercialisation if it’s a full on fail… if so will be calling FCA re SGS…
The BMJ site is a better read than the letter to patients in the trial:

Reminder of SGS TWEET 9/9/21 St George Street Capital are delighted to announce preliminary findings from the ARCADIA trial investigating AZD1656 as a potential new treatment for people with diabetes and COVID-19. Strong trends of reduced mortality were seen in the AZD1656 group. More details on our website.
6. There was a difference in the number deaths in patients seen between treatment groups. Whilst the majority of patients in both groups survived, fewer deaths occurred in the AZD1656 group compared to the placebo group.
