def one i'm keeping in back of mind - looks like infra is front and centre going forward. and if you are going to build, generally, you need heeps of cement.
Thank you bigsmoke. It cleared it up for me.
I spent some time reading Steppe's annual report and financials yesterday. I'm a bit sentimental but I really like the company. They seem to be improving the factory every year, aiming to keep the debt level under control and there is always positive indicators of how Steppe is looking after its staff.
not too sure why you wouldn't have sold this morning...? Got out, let the stock fall 10%, as its done. Then get back in..
Hopefully it’s reached it’s turning point...the coiled spring has wound itself up enough
oh - the record date is not that relevant here. it is an admin matter. those that sold yesterday will not get the div because they were not on the books at the close of business on the day before the ex-div date.
marymoo - yes, the stock now trades ex-div. buyers today until next div declared will not buy stock with div. those on the books at yesterday close will get the div when paid at the mont end.
usual markdown = outflow of DIV. Should have opened 22p (25p-3p), then sellers exit and SP falls further. A tad unusal, but good sign of support today. well done all that held for the good income.
I'm fairly new to investing so would appreciate some informative replies. I've understood that if one sells a stock on the ex-div date or after, it is still possible to get the dividends. If so, the selling activity today was due to people selling their shares with a knowledge that they will still receive the dividend payment? What confuses me a bit is the record date? If I sold my shares on ex-div date, I assume I would not be listed in the books on the record date? If I am, why is that? Is there some sort of built -in delay in the system?
Hopefully, if there isn't much take up there won't be much mark down after and the SP will be relatively stable.
to hold, collect DIV, add on the mark down
thought there would be way more take up
Something fishy going on...seem to be getting a number of buy/sell transactions taking place on a given day, and the next day the transaction is reversed. Almost seems like it’s been held back.
Yes, all that happens directly after ex divi is a drop.
The question is - will that drop be sustained in coming weeks/months of will it start going up?
Surely all that happens after ex divi is a drop
It will come right, patience is key.
Just a bit neglected/unknown at the moment.
I don’t think much is going to happen price action wise by ex divi date....maybe fireworks will start afterwards
nice little earner (12%).
Resilient stocks with at least 12% yield welcome in my portfolio
Market always marks down the DIV outflow. Usually, a good time to buy imho.
What's everyones thoughts on this? Will be bomb on Friday after ex div on this?
let's see what next week brings.
to 30p (at least) would be positive sign.
not a lot of income stocks around - esp paying 14%
