Madpunter and Jezzoo and the rest of the denier's out there.
I am going to do you a big favour, so you don't remain idiots for the rest of your Life.
I will post the NOAA education centre link.
This will enable you to understand climate change without all the mathematics involved.
If you are capable of the math then feel free to look at the NOAA datasets, which is what is used by all scientists around the world.
I don't think you even understand what man made climate change is.
This will help massively.
https://www.noaa.gov/education/resource-collections/climate#:~:text=Currently%2C%20our%20planet's%20global%20surface,potential%20to%20affect%20environmental%20conditions.
It's never been constant. Show me links for charts showing it constant. It's never been in correlation on the geological charts for periods of hundreds of millions of years.
Jezzoo no pretence.
He got my whole family into astronomy.
What on earth had climate change got to do with the sun.
It's the man made part that's important . Not the everyday climate.
I think you and Madpunter are just winding me up, as noone can be that stupid.
Did warn you nit.
You just did it again Quady, when did I say insects have anything to do with measureable CO2 ?
I didn't, but you went straight into Quadsplaining some waffle about measuring the milligrammes per kilogramme.
Climate change has always happened Quady, some short term (decades) some longer ( centuries) and some long term (Millenia). Ice ages ? Solar flares ?
We are at the mercy of that thermonuclear ball of plasma we sometimes see in the sky.
Our particular form of climate change is just a smokescreen for much bigger problems due to population explosion.
Are you saying population expansion isn't a fact Quady.
Maybe you should ask one of the Patrick Moores you pretend to know, wasn't one of them in Star Trek ?
Good Grief.
Madpunter you are just telling lies.
CO2 at the time of ice ages was pretty constant at 200 parts per million.
Today it is over 400 parts per million.
The sea ice in Antarctica has reached record levels for the last few years. The IPCC tried to explain that this is because glacial meltwater is freshwater and freezes easier than sea water, which is true. However, it's the whole coastline and not just where the rivers flow into the oceans. This also explains why the oceans are getting more acidic, as cooling causes more Carbon Dioxide to dissolve, not a few more parts per million in the atmosphere.
When the temperature was rising on the Earth, it was also rising on other planets in our solar system. Milankovich Cycles are what causes climate change and the burning of fossil fuels has a negligible effect.
5 million people die each year from the effects of temperature, 500k through heat and 4.5m through cold. We focusing on the wrong science, but that's nothing new. When glaciation was first mooted, it was ridiculed. The same happened with plate tectonics. How do you explain the last ice ages having 8 X and 11 X as much Carbon Dioxide as today?
Good grief Jezzoo climate change is fact it's undeniable.
Why on earth do you think otherwise.
What has insects got to do with measurable co2
We measure the milligrammes per kilogramme.
You cannot pretend that you don't believe in the measurements.
Wanna see the V5's Quady ?
What you state isn't fact either,' it's an opinion.
I'm not panicking about my investment either, just bored with it, tell me, how is that connected with how many vehicles I have as I can't see it ?
Also check the recommends, more people agree with me than you (again)
I've always been a country boy too and have seen the dramatic reduction in insects and song birds over the last 30 years, it's modern farming methods and pesticides that have driven this change, we are asking too much of the natural world to feed the burgeoning population.
There will be a tipping point in population numbers eventually and the planet will be fine, we humans have a high opinion of ourselves, some more than others.
Atlas will shrug.
Then my mistake I knew Patrick Moore the astronomer.
The point is climate change is fact.
It's proven beyond doubt.
Sir Patrick Moore was a British astronomer. Dr Patrick Moore is a Canadian scientist who co-founded Greenpeace.
Madpunter yo have the right name.
Dark winter is about the solar cycle and has nothing to do with man made climate change.
Also I knew Patrick Moore as a fellow astronomer and I can tell you he was fully aware of climate change and was always on about the changes mankind had to make.
I suggest that you read Dark Winter by the NASA scientist Casey, which explains why we're heading into a Grand Solar Minimum and thirty years of Global Cooling. This will result in lower crop yields, whereas Global Warming would have given a second crop in some parts and even a third crop in other's. As the Wikileaks exposed, it's all about the money. $100bn fund to pay for influencers to promote the MMGW scam and a return of $125tn from Carbon Trading. Even the co-founder of Greenpeace, Dr Patrick Moore, left because he doesn't believe in MMGW. Dr Moore is a true environmentalist who put his life on the line for the environment. He drove a RIB in the path of the French Navy's guns, when they were firing at the Rainbow Warrior in New Zealand.
Well done Jezzoo the most uninformed post I have ever seen.
What you state is not fact.
A fact is an observational event that is either directly or indirectly observed.
Climate change is fact we are observing it on a daily basis.
You say when fossil fuels run out.
We can never burn all the fossil fuels in the ground.
We are toast before we get close.
So I am not talking about the displaced two billion.
I am talking about the whole planet.
Anyway I don't believe you have all those vehicles as you are one of the posters panicking for an early return on your Solgold shares.
Otherwise like me you would be more relaxed about your Investments.
You keep worrying about climate change and I'll just worry about the cost of putting fuel in my three Harleys, Corvette, Audi, Peugeot (wifes car) and my old DR650 Suzuki.
I don't have anything old enough to run on coal so I'm still greener than the Chinese, not that I care a jot.
Just read what the WEF discussed at Davos last week, Klaus Schwab is calling for the banning of private cars for the masses for instance, the underlying problem is not warming the planet, it's the fact that when fossil fuels run out there isn't a viable alternative yet that will power and feed nearly 8 billion people. The WEF want to slow this down by retrograde steps, no personal belongings, banning the proles from jet travel etc. They want a world of zombiefied people brainwashed into thinking they are saving the planet when in reality they are trying to make a two speed society whereas they carry on with their high carbon lives on private jets and the rest of us sit at home scared to death of a virus and keeping the doors and windows closed whilst we huddle around a solitary light bulb ordering crap off Amazon. When the oil runs out the planet may be better off (slightly) but society will turn to anarchy and destroy their cosy existence. They will all be dead anyway from old age (me too waiting for my money back in SOLG).
Have a nice day !
Agreed addicknt.
Lovelock called this decades ago.
It's amazing how many ignorant people we have in the world.
Unfortunately we need to do as much as we can.
I take your point on electric car's but it's a very important part of the mix.
Along with green hydrogen, also every country that can growing more of it's own food to cut down on food miles.
So much is going to change in the next decade. I just hope we are not too late.
That's complete rubbish Madpunter.
The IPCC looks at the climate as a whole talking about one figure in isolation shows you don't even understand what climate change is.
Put quiet simply it is the difference between the Earths climate and the man made element.
Remember that a 1 degree change of the man made element is critical because it's adds to the atmospheric temperature and if not addressed it increases the planets overall temperature every year.
This doesn't mean it constantly rises as this is on top of the base climate figure and that changes also year on year.
Remember we are only looking at the man made element, which is the dangerous part of climate change. Go look at the NOAA databases and understand why NOAA are so concerned.
Trust me NOAA and NASA know far more about this stuff then you and I.
Stop trying to come up with ridiculous arguments that don't hold water and read the science.
This is what is going to drive the world in the coming years.
But maybe I will give you something to think about.
At 3 degrees of man made temperature rise, 2 billion people will be displaced as the heat will render parts of the Earth as uninhabitable. The UK and other parts of the world, will have immigration of millions per year. We will not be able to grow enough food and large area's of land will be without water.
We need to tackle this now.
Q, just to re-emphasise, my argument is about practicality, not the need for change. Similarly, I'm very much a supporter of Lovelock's later argument - that the world would be better off preparing defences against climate change, and that we can do little to avoid it.
I'm a keen gardener and am fortunate to have 3.5 acres. I see the change on an annual basis and I also see how quickly it's escalated. I recognise what needs to be done, but politicians need to return to reality. That's all I'm saying.
Sorry addicknt but without carbon trading credits China's economy would be shut down. Believe me they care very much. I am aware of the so called dash for coal in China but they will need to increase their copper intake massively to switch to clean energy and they are doing that now. China understands the dilemma they currently are in. You will see China become one of the top manufacturers of electric cars.
The big problem is the infrastructure to provide the power. But already this is being addressed.
You will not plug cars into the grid to charge. If you do it will come from microgeneration methods, but most likely you will use the Sun to charge your car.
Just look at the Aptera. A car that charges from the sun, that can theoretically drive 1,000 miles on a single charge. It charges between 30 to 40 miles a day.
But you can plug it in as well.
Already on sale and hopefully coming to the UK end of this year.
Is that the same IPCC that stated in the late 70's/early 80's that the average temperature of the planet was 15 degrees Centigrade and that MMGW would push the temperature up by at least half a degree by the year 2000. It dropped to 14.62 and it took them 8 years of manipulation before stating that the average was actually 14 and not 15, to enable it to look like the temperature increased by 0.62.
Q, regardless of the need for emission reduction, I'm simply referring to the reality. We will not be able to achieve it in the timeline imposed by government - it's ludicrous and will eventually be adjusted. As it stands, nothing on god's earth would persuade me to buy an electric vehicle at the moment.
As for China and the rest...they couldn't give a flying f..k and must look at the West and roar with laughter.
We'll get there eventually, but not for a very long time.
They're doing all of it to drive inflation chaps - I grew up in the 1970s - got the t-shirt ...
Sorry addicknt that's not true, I am someone who follows green issues and legislation around the world. The IPCC are setting climate change targets for all those signed up to them.
For which the UK is a signatory.
The ban on petrol and diesel engines by 2030 and hybrids by 2035 is based on calculations required to meet our 2035 target's. We are also looking at gas boiler regulation and although airline's are exempt from the calculation at the moment. This may be included by 2040 to meet the 2050 hard target.
This is going to be tough, but the UK are making progress unlike some of the world's heavy polluters.
I see much more weight being attached to carbon trading by 2030 making costs for China and India and the USA much higher.
bonker99, and this is one of the reasons the utterly absurd ban on petrol vehicles from 2030 won't work. It was a totally arbitrary date pulled out of the hat by useless politicians who appear to have taken no account of what would actually be required to make this achievable.
We are living in an age where it's blindingly obvious that politicians around the world are simply very, very low quality individuals. For christ's sake, look at this country - we can't even build one battery manufacturer, let alone the many which are required.
At some stage the morons in Westminster will wake up and push the date back. By the way, did any of us actually vote for this ban? If we did I must have missed it.
