In my view the gas network is a valuable asset. The transportation service currently delivers methane gas, what about green (blue) hydrogen etc. when the eco zealots get their way? There are a myriad of uses for gas, it's not all about residential cooking / heating. We can't just stop using the current energy systems (Fossils) like switching a light off or we will all be in the dark without a torch.
Yes, it's bad news today. Will the good run come to an end, I wonder?
But not today - sp will frop a few pence following TU.
Slowly but seems quite likely.
As Democratic lawmakers and governors ramp up efforts to ban gas hookups in new buildings, two large U.S. utilities are considering selling part of their gas pipeline networks, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, quoting sources with knowledge of the plans.
Dominion Energy and National Grid plc are deliberating potential divestments of part of their gas transmission systems as the “gas stove wars” have intensified and towns and cities across the U.S. are considering banning gas hookups for home appliances in new buildings.
The bans, and the potential bans, would refer to new homes only, and will not remove existing gas appliances, yet the debate has become fierce among politicians and lawmakers.
To minimize possible losses from such bans, Dominion Energy and National Grid are exploring potential sales of gas pipeline networks.
National Grid, for its part, is deliberating a possible sale of part of its gas distribution network in the Northeast, with one option being divesting a minority stake, the Journal’s sources said
More push to the right direction again. Long may this continue. But, again, what should I do now? Is it a good opportunity to get out and buy back later? Decisions, decisions....
Took profits at lunchtime when it looked to have plateaued and was falling back. Just before it started to climb some more. It's a while since it's been this high but was £12 before and may well get there again. Without me this time unfortunately unless it retreats significantly first.
I thought I took advantage of this being quite boring at the moment to sell some ,to buy back in ISA after today.
So my guess is it’s going mainly upwards.
Based on nothing than what always happens.
Sell it goes up.
Want to buy it goes up.
Buy it goes down
£11!! Been waiting for ages. Now, what do we do? Will it get to £12 before retreating? Decisions, decisions.
Oh yes simx, correction : it can mean two things. I have already said one of them. The other possibility is display error....hahahaha
@seen_it, the buyer could have got these shares after the market closed for 10.98'ish. Instead a 12.5% premium was paid. There's something I'm not understanding here, whcih is why I suggested the possibility of a typo. I do however like the idea that it's a sign the sp is moving north sharpish.
A large order paid such a big premium can only mean one thing. The buyer is dead sure that the sp will definitely head north. Let it start with £11 tomorrow then £12 next week or next month. My average is £9. I will sell if it gets to £12, lol. Good luck everyone. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
@denby: 1,119,181 Buy, ordinary trade, at 1,229.2p. when the sp is 1092p. This was a buy at 137p above the current sp.
Agreed, I'd be selling at that price, but would still like a rational explanation why someone would be prepared to pay so much? I'm wondering if its a display error? Any thoughts welcome.
Simx
just wait a little longer 12 37 i will sell @
31-Mar-23 12:59:58 1,229.205 1,119,181 Buy* 1,092.00 1,093.00 14m O
This trade just went through, current sp 1093, trade price 1229.2, bought for 130p more than sp! Anyone have an explanation? The last time sp was at that level was may 2022.
Are you going to buy back in at 890 again ?
IT WILL go much higher
Sold my lot bought last Sept @933. Could go much higher of course but I'm happy with a decent profit banked.
Reader, I don't think Labour pose any nationalisation threat to NG at all.
1) At the last Labour conference, Starmer proposed the creation of state-owned "Great British Energy", but this is will be an energy producer. It will still need NG's networks to distribute the energy/gas. So no change there.
2) Rachel Reeves has ruled out nationalising energy saying the country can't afford to spend money on that (she's probably correct, given how indebted the country already is).
3) Further, in my opinion, if there is ANY nationalisation programmes at all, they will start with water companies and train operators. That alone will keep them busy for more than a decade I reckon, so the prospects of getting anywhere near the energy producers, let alone NG, are so remote I wouldn't worry about it.
4) If there is any "Labour ideology" it will be directed at who is paying (or not paying) their share of tax. Again, there's more than enough to chew on there to keep them busy.
5) NG isn't viewed negatively. Indeed, as people learn what NG is doing to help bring about electrification and net zero, they should be impressed.
Just my thoughts!
GS.
My concern for NG would be the Labour party gaining power. Not only will that affect all shares negatively for a period but there is also the threat of nationalisation in the utility sector. That said, I'm not sure they can do much more harm than the Tories and there hasn't been a lot of room left for tax increases as this Gov has screwed and is about to screw all corporates further with tax.
I watch this channel regularly, they always show you interesting things that NG are working on and will also alleviate the fears that some less informed people have that think the UK will revert to the Stone Age once we go electric.
Also, it always spins NG off in a good light in regard to the renewable side of things.

GLA
NG supplies the infrastructure to carry gas and electricity and the prices are set by Ofgen, the regulator. The price is also accompanied by performance targets. The wholesale prices for energy are irrelevant and the only way for them to make large profits is to exceed their targets.
sorry top but if the electricty is more expensive shorley the share price should go up. mind you I do realize that NG. is highly Regulated which effects the SP.

Why should the price of electricity affect the NG share price?
This is a dog keeps going down seeing the price of electricity?
