@trouble, yh thats what I'd read too, its now going direct into the lungs and causing viral pneumonia before any other symptoms, which is a worry.
Whoops - symptoms.
Time for bed - GLA
Apparently, research has shown that lung problems account for about 1/4 of all visits by children to a GP.
It was mentioned that the omicron variant tends to directly effect the lungs without displaying any prior systems.
May be a reason but I'm certainly no medic.
Toddlers..... Strange
Try clicking on the arrow at the bottom of the page . Basically the higher number of admissions is among the very young.
@Exmex
Much appreciated - however can't access the info for some reason.
From the Washington Post article, it would seem most hospitalised are children.
Not a mention of that over here, as far as I'm aware ?
troublesome, this is the link I posted earlier .Page fourteen contains a chart containing hospital admissions in Tshwane , one of the new variant hotspots. When you look at the age of admissions it's opposite to what you would expect.

Monetarily in terms of money ringing in the tills etc... Christmas may be in the balance.
But Christmas is Christmas and won't lose its real meaning or message.
Let's hope so Woody. However, it must be one colossal overreaction from the world's governments if that is the case. I'm not used to calling BJ out for overreacting, usually the other end if the scale. Guess we'll start finding out over the course if the next 3 weeks. Christmas is in the balance depending on which way this Omicron situation swings.
Very interesting response from government, they are all clearly very worried about this. They normally have been very reluctant to act quickly, this feels very different.
I've read a few articles about this today, it doesn't make me feel like this is losing its pathogenicity, quite the opposite in fact, its behaving in a completely different way and it feels quite ominous.
It feels like it should be taken seriously, the government response seems to reflect this concern.
Troubling times, it was bound to happen, covid going nowhere. It now bears no relationship to the original wuhan version, which we have all been vaccinated against. Here we go again
Mr. Dribbles you should read your original comment and then read my reply again. I am not disagreeing with what you have just written.
The fact that a possible lesser strain comes along doesn't change the fact that other known strains out there won't just disappear.
Hey Mr Dribbles come and talk to me over at GST…….just doing some research now on it. Another placing coming by the looks. Lol
A shame to end on a red day Mr Dribbles, think I’ll take it out on that lifestyle company GST.
Latest vaccine news from our honest government?. If you don’t have your 3rd ‘ voluntary’ Covid vaccine (one assumes it will soon to be followed by a 4th, 5th and 6th dose based on previous statements?) then you won’t be allowed to do anything, but the vaccine isn’t compulsory! Now I’ll get back to watching ‘I am Legend.’ Stay safe folks! Aimho Adyor!!!
that is a scary film bearing in mind whats happening
Just sitting down to watch ‘I am Legend’ before I get my ‘Weekly’ Covid jab!!!
It's been a nutty day K.
Ventura I was thinking about red squirrels and the devastation at Formby golf and the red squirrels always in the garden as a kid and think that's why I inserted your name. Oops.
@Exmex
Is it possible to post the info again ?
I recall it mentioning that hospitalisations had increased 3 fold in a matter of only a few weeks.
The Washington Post more or less re-iterates this point although fewer patients are being treated for severe disease than in previous surges.
But more young children are being treated and experts warn firmer conclusions will need more time.
Would imagine that its the last thing the NHS needs ATM.

Thanks Kaeren.
Surely that should be illegal Ken, at the very least discouraged.
See my apology below Ventura it wasnt meant for you at all. K
Kaeren, That wasn't the point I was making.
I was just replying to the comment made by Mr. Dribble.
Dont know why I addressed that to you Ventura , sorry wasn't directed at you at all. Can't be bothered to go and look who I was responding too ! Sorry again
That wasn't my take on it at all Ventura. The demographics of those catching it are very different to Europe / States , they are much younger. They said clearly they know it is more transmissable and that leads to more hospitalisations and deaths. Regarding severity of symptoms they do not know yet hence the mass vaccination drive AGAIN :(:( I do agree with whoever posted earlier that there is a fine tightrope with vaccinations. Certain groups in society will be enough is enough . We were told ideal time for a booster is six months , then as Delta increased 5 months , now 3 months. Give us a bottle we'll suck on it.
I thought Van Tam both looked and sounded concerned. They also made it clear they don't know if vaccines are effective against it. That was my take , I detected unease as they had not yet got enough information to identify key areas of concern , therefore solution MORE vaccines as they could get us ahead of the wave was I think the phrase used.
So travel stocks went up, umm, shoot me now.
