Snige, I made the point that those north of the border did not consider themselves Irish in the main as Cuckoo contended.
You decided to get involved and attempted to blur the lines between religious persuasion north of the border and the remainer/leave spilt in the referendum.
Why tell me,the majority wanted to remain as we are.I'm not particularly interested in their nationality, that isn't going to change,is it.
irrelevant
Not true at all Snige.
A majority there voted to remain in the EU. The referendum was nothing to do with nationality. Cuckoo decided to say both sides of the border were Irish. I pointed out that the majority in the north do not regard themselves as so. Are you understanding that ??

?
Even more irrelevant of you Gateboy in thinking they wished to change their nationality by how they voted in the 2016 referendum.
Gate13Boy
"... the electoral majority in the north do not regard themselves as Irish"
True ...but they are quite canny because as part of the Good Friday Agreement they made sure that if things should go t*ts up in any way they can be identified as British/Irish or both and maintain a right to hold both British and Irish Citizenship accepted by governments of north and south ...
Snige
''go for the soft high tech Irish Sea border which apparently no one will notice anyway and the 52% within UK get their WA/transition''
What like the hard land border that no one will notice because it will be invisible?
Don't want a WA and 2 years extra without change. We don't want to hand over £39 Billion either for the privilege
Irrelevant Snige.
You are confusing the referendum result there with the wishes of the population regarding their right to self-determination which is frequently expressed in General Elections there.
I’m merely pointing out that the electoral majority in the north do not regard themselves as Irish. It’s quite a typical mistake made by followers of Corbyn given his previous record in matters there.
Gateboy, the majority in NI are the 56% who wanted to remain, either way you look at it,it's NI you're going to upset one side.
Sell the 44%(DUP) down the river and go for the soft high tech Irish Sea border which apparently no one will notice anyway and the 52% within UK get their WA/transition
The DUP have done alright, they got their £ billion, which probably hasn't been split fairly within Ulster.
WHY KEEP DOING IT THEN
ONLYIF.....I don't make assumptions.
DUP fury with May over prospect of Brexit ‘Irish Sea border’
DUP leader Arlene Foster said the Prime Minister appeared “wedded to the idea of a border down the Irish Sea” despite Downing Street’s repeated assurances to the contrary.
The response of the DUP has caused frustration in Downing Street, with sources insisting that Mrs May was not hiding behind “weasel words” and had stressed that she would not accept a deal which saw Northern Ireland hived off.
The European Union’s fallback proposal aimed at avoiding a hard border between Ireland and the UK would effectively keep Northern Ireland aligned with Brussels’ customs union and single market.

It'll be Boris's trusted trader scheme which involves affixing a sticker to the bumper of your tranny van. The new sticker will have the same big thumbs up on it (like the old one) BUT the backdrops gonna have the EU flag merged with the UK flag but he's gonna get rid of the saltire bit & swap it for a leek to more properly mark current public feeling on how some union members have conducted themselves over Brexit.
that's your assumption
May the remainer concocted nowt ,she just snuggled up with the eu,
Poker if you were having to tap Macrons old fossil of a Mrs you'd be a misery too. Creepy weirdo marrying his mrs if you ask me.
That's your assumption.
Mrs May concocted the Irish backstop solution, to keep the DUP onside, as the EU wanted a border down the Irish sea.
But TM NEVER wanted to find an alternative she was more than happy for the UK to remain tied to the EU for ever and a day ,hence backstop deal
longtimeinvestor
I think everyone's patience on the whole thing is running thin..... we await and see how things progress
" Now it appears that they (Merkel anyway) are willing to move from that position if an alternative can be found."
they have been waiting for a workable alternative proposal for MONTHS ..how many times did TM go back and forth ?
They are so fed up of waiting for these proposals , that they have given Johnson 30 days limit...AND said clearly once again the Alternative Arrangements Commission work was not a basis for replacing the backstop
Johnson :" We do think there are alternative arrangements that could readily be used to address the problem of frictionless trade at the Northern Irish border and you’ll have heard them before"
Give me strength
Merkel was very friendly ..I dont think Macron will be quite as so...I think he will be more direct
Not holding my breath though that they would go along with any proposal .They will simply dismiss anything to save face.
PC
''Boris Johnson will not meet EU leaders until they agree to change their position on the Northern Irish backstop.''
What is it that you do not understand?
The EU had said that the backstop would remain.
Now it appears that they (Merkel anyway) are willing to move from that position if an alternative can be found.
July : Boris Johnson will not meet EU leaders until they agree to change their position on the Northern Irish backstop.
August : Johnson ...."OK Angela, nice to see you...yes,yes I agree..the onus is on us to produce those solutions, those ideas, to show how we can address the issue of the Northern Irish border "
Skier if I could recommend your post twice I would.

''Cameras to monitor people and goods crossing the border!''
The ROI is in a common travel area with the UK and that will continue.
So no smuggling takes place now DCB?
71 days to go
The Eire-NI border is just a tiny 0.2% of EU trade and is not important at all. Only a few lorries trickle across the border every day.
A camera and digital import system, like Destin8, already in successful operation at Felixstowe port, which handles 25 x more trade every day, can be implemented on the NI border in a flash. Problem solved.
The "backstop" is, sadly, being ruthlessly exploited by the EU and desperate Remainers to thwart a UK exit deal.
Theresa Mayhem was weak and stupid and let the EU get away with it.
Boris is stronger and smarter. He is right -- if the EU do not rip up the political backstop, just harden the NI border, and let Eire get into a panic. It will hurt Ireland far more than Britain.
We, as a country, need to be more confident, and stop our nervous self-loathing all the time.
