With the sp hardly moving/resisting calls to fall I think the best option is to wait for another contract win and then watch it take off into the 40s
Well written article on Www.the armchairtrader.com . In contrast with the article in the Times by William Kay, who despite being a professional failed to any research and needed to do add silly quips about imaginary cigars. All imo dyor
Don't blame them! They probably bought at about 10P or less, a very healthy profit!!
It would appear that the Dixons sold down 2.25m shares on, or before, 9 February (they now hold 38.5m shares) according to RNS issued at 12:38 today (per the London Stock Exchange)
Two sizeable contract wins in successive days, both in December 23 and February 24 tells us that product is in demand, seemingly in lower earth orbit satellites. What a difference in the share price today compared to Covid times and it could well go much further? Military project lead times are now very much shorter than they were, thanks to Vladimir, so I would not be surprised if that market opens for us too. Great performance by the Board and everyone at FTC. Wish I had invested more now!
Haha :)
Arteee, we adapt and learn but come the revolution ... ;-)
I’m only a long term private investor and genuinely know nothing. However, the volume of shares traded, along with the appreciation in share price would suggest that something is afoot! Who knows!
Good luck
Something else driving the move upwards Bazworth...Are you hinting at a takeover bid? Bae maybe - They've been rather acquisitive recently...
Many thanks Bazworth and the Trotsky. Really appreciated. The Trotsky, your name seems strangely unsuitable for someone who has such a clear understanding of the vagaries of capitalism and the twists and turns of small cap enterprise!
Long story short, having trawled Companies House and the Regulatory News, FTC was a totally different company back in March 2000. Back in March 2000 FTC primarily dealt with high volume, low margin wireless components, whereas now it deals in lower volume, higher margin wireless components, and had c63.5m shares in issue (which equates to a market capitalisation of c£1.45bn back in March 2000). Also, March 2000 represented the peak of the tech boom which started in the late 1990s and the FTC share price had not been immune from over speculation (hence the sharp rise and subsequent sharp fall as reality bit).
Subsequently, FTC sold its high volume wireless componenets business in October 2006 and several other of its ancilliary businesses in 2007 and 2008.
In November 2015, FTC moved from the Main Market to AIM and, concurrent with the move, its existing 10p ordinary shares were each sub-divided into one new ordinary share of 0.1p and one new deferred share of 9.9p (the deferred shares have no rights to either dividends or capital and are un-listed - they are essentially worthless). At the same time as the move to AIM, FTC did a placing of 90m new shares and shortly thereafter completed an open offer for a further c10m new shares. As a result, following the share sub-division, placing and open offer, FTC then had c215m new ordinary shares of 0.1p listed on AIM.
Too long a story to try and record. I have invested in FTC for about 25 years, not always in but for good chunks of time. The old FTC was high volume low margin stuff, generally in telecoms. the new FTC, especially since the current CEO took the reins about three years ago, is incredibly different. Lower volume but higher margin and there has been a bucket-load of contract wins since about last July. Just read the RNS announcements and you will gain a real flavour as to why the shares are flying off the shelves! I do sense, however, that there is something else driving the current rapid move upwards!! Good luck!!
Hi there. I am new to ftc and was astonished to discover from the google long term graph that the company's sp reached an amazing 2271.00 in March 2000. Does anyone know why it reached those heady heights and then descended very swiftly. Or is it some sort of google glitch!? Feeling optimistic about ftc in 2024!
Thanks in advance, Art.
Found this private blog on ADVFN: https://martinflitton1.wixsite.com/privatepunter from a few days ago. I thought it was a very informative blog. However, "Private Punter" is not an analyst (as he says, "thoughts not advice") so CAVEAT EMPTOR.
It would appear that the lead time on new defence contracts can be upwards of 10 years from initial pitch to first order! So, any new defence orders are likely to be repeat orders (rather than new products) but the lead time in LEO satellites can be less than a year! Also capacity constraints could start to becoming an issue further down the line. They indicated to Private Punter that they have capacity for c£25m-£30m of annual sales but at present don't see capacity being a big issue (scope to "sweat the existing assets", which presumably implies that they think they can achieve more than c£25m-£30m if needs be).
It would be nice if FTC could land a few more large orders over the next few months but we've already had quite a frenetic last six months (since 21 July last year they've announced six orders worth c£26m), so can't really complain.
In addition to the recent space orders I would imagine that some new defence orders are in the offing. Russia seems to be very adept at jamming drones so any business in this area could have lots of upside potential
Follow on news of 6th Feb. is most likely the reason for their continuous rise. Doubt anyone pondering over investing has missed the boat !
The production order contract, valued at $9.9m (£7.8m), with revenue expected to be recognised within calendar year 2024, is for additional demand of Filtronic's innovative Cerus32 solid state power amplifier ("SSPA") module. This is the third and largest production order to date for the Cerus32 SSPA and it represents increased customer confidence in Filtronic technology following initial field deployment.
What's causing recent surge?
Fantastic company that has been transformed by an excellent management team. They are opening up new & highly lucrative markets. Well done all at FTC!!
Agreed Trotsky. Just doing their thing. They know their market and they appear to be just getting on doing what they do.
Long may it continue.
It's a refreshing change to allow the share price to do the talking ;-)
I am staggered by the lack of interest in this company on this board. This a very well run company making great strides in hot sectors and has come alight after a week of presentations.
Their opportunity is massive especially in space. Take a look
Thing is with FTC though is the potential for extremely substantial & rapid growth across several areas, perhaps the biggest opportunity that is already providing much excitement is Space. Happy to be holding very tight!!
besides filtronic the other major defence stocks worth dabbling in include bae, qinetiq, bab****, chemring, avon protection, rolls royce, serco and possibly senior.
Needs a serious re-rating. I suspect FTC might be in 'Share Tips for 2024'.
It has been higher but a number of years ago. About 30p in 2017 'ish' and significantly higher many years ago.
I'm no expert but there appears to be an impressive transformation going on in FTC, especially with the Space contracts. I'm a very long-term holder!!
Cheers
