Don't want to get ahead of myself here but cineworld sp heading in the opposite direction to its american counterparts (cineplex & amc) as well as the travel sector. All were down whilst cineworld was up.
Now I've said that, bet we finish in the red tomorrow....will hold till we are clear of the £1.20 mark again (whenever that is).
Gla
I had the similar view hkt123 on the SP good spot!
Three factors are holding the SP low in my opinion:
The trial (against Cineplex)
The fear for a new lockdown (UK and US) China has reconfined few cities
And the willingness of the moviegoers to return to the cinemas (we can tick this one)
So hopefully in few weeks after the trial we can see only positive news…
HKT/AllKap - Agree with your points in general, but the difference between the Cineworld and its counterparts across the Atlantic is gearing. The market cap to forecast (or historic) revenue ratio is much lower as Cineworld purchased Regal at what with hindsight was a bad time. For me though - although this increases the risk, it also creates the opportunity. I belive the fundamentals that drove the purchase of Regal will still be there and realsed on recovery. Ultimately the lower Cap to revenue is a greater opportunity as driving revenue, increasing efficiency and reducing debt could have a much more disproportionate impact on the Cap and share price. The suggestion of a US listing could also give a liquidity boost.
Following yesterday's press conference, the press are already scaremongering about covid in winter
The Time today saying chief medical officers tell PM go hard and go early if cases surge in winter.
It's never ending this, probably this negative sentiment that is affecting most of my shares today, again.
Yup, just put on the news whilst WFH and Covid Hospitalizations is currently the topic of discussion.
"We can expect hospitalizations to increase to 7,000 a day, the current figure is around 1,000 a day"
Project fear is back, I have to say that I hate how unbalanced our media is. They seem to only report negative stories and even then they like to amplify the negativity, it’s not healthy for people’s mental health to be constantly told they are in mortal danger.
Hkt I enjoy reading your posts.
While I totally agree with the sentiment we need to carry on with this virus there has been a uptrend in the amount in hospital , I remember when we were having single digit deaths and the hospital admissions were falling nicely.
At one point they were sitting around 900 ave maybe a little less , but forward a few months we are now at 8.5k currently in hospital. So it has been a steady rise and something they should be looking at.
What I would love to see is detailed stats on how many are dying with full vaccination, how many have refused the vaccination and are in hospital and the ave age currently hospitalised.
The government might of missed a trick , if its all youngsters or people who have refused the vaccine then it will only encourage more to get it , however if its full of fully vaccinated then questions will be asked by the press who love a doom and gloom story. It's this part that gets me wondering why the silence
Cheers bonkers!!
I agree with the views of negative/slightly misleading reports on the news. I find the stats a bit misleading as "its deaths within 28days of testing positive with covid" and not necessarily deaths caused by covid.
Generally agree with the fact that we need to learn to live with the virus but if hospitalization continue to rise, we need to know why and who make up these hospitalization numbers i.e. young/old/vaccinated/unvaccinated etc and then address the issue. If say 70% of hospitalizations consist of unvaccinated humans then we know where the issue is.
GP surgeries operating at limited capacity also does not help the situation.
What's clear is, Biden and Boris are more concerned about saving a few extra lives and public services / opinion, than the economy, businesses, etc etc.
Next they will be talking about restrictions everytime there is a flu outbreak.
seen a report on news saying a majority people in hospital have not had a jab. In my eyes its their own fault. Get a bloody jag and help everyone, quite simple.
Just topped up again. I need to resist any more...
I call it Project Fear JG and it is something that behavioural scientists advise the government on and and has been done by Boris Johnson, Witty and Vallance many times during the pandemic and its been commented on several times on here. The aim being to get people to exercise vigilance and care that they might not otherwise be doing and to keep a lid on things. The move quick comment is just that. Incidentally it was delivered on a day when the infection rate was falling.
If you look at the likes of Hollywood Bowl and Gym Group's share prices this morning (Inside space sellers also) they have barely moved, if at all. TUI also marginally up.
Do you really think that having just raised NI by 1.25% to cover a back log of NHS treatments (and care costs) that the Govt wish to recommence furlough and the massive cost that goes with it.
The bit you missed out in your commentary is that they have also just sanctioned the 3rd vaccine "Booster jabs" roll out for all over 50's and what is essentially all in the highest risk categories (Cohorts 1-9).
Unfortunately I learnt that the hard way in early April topping up my ISA with Cine when we were > £1 :-(
I forget the numbers, but it has been reported in the news.
The deaths/severe cases are VERY dominant in their make up. Like 80% or something.
Circa 5 million adults still with no vaccination for whatever reason.
These links may help
Daily info - https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/
Pertinent chart from Whitty yesterday - https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E_PV-oBXIAk4Hqd?format=jpg&name=medium
Sorry guys tried to share the government daily covid info link and the link to some interesting charts from yesterday’s briefing, the second one was very interesting as it showed the large extent to which you are protected after two vaccinations.
cekim there was a report in the Daily Mail a few weekends back with an interview with and ICU consultant and he put it that 90% of those in hospital had not had the vaccine. Many of them staunch refuseniks and tragically several of whom died and it detailed how before being placed in an induced coma several of them had commented that they wished now that they had had the vaccine. Any surprise that yesterday they were also trying to urge the 5 Mill that have elected not to have the jab - to get it. These are all debates that go round in circles on here.
Deal with things when they happen as opposed to all the speculation. We close then we can get back to something like the 123p we were during the last closure, whilst working up the US listing.
Meanwhile today's court proceedings should be worth watching when our counsel gets started for even I picked up on several remarks made by the CFO yesterday.
Others to watch.
Flu will be the biggest concern this year.
I laughably heard one professor on Jazz FM news state that they 'expect flu to return this year'.
Where was it last year then? On holiday?
Fully expect any flu deaths to get notched up as a Covid death which is infuriating as surely everyone must now have come into contact with it - so even if you get knocked down by a bus, if you've got it in your system you'll be chalked up as a Covid death.
What we really need to know is how many deaths are as a direct result of contracting Covid and not merely 'with' it.
But that doesn't make for rage bait headlines.
This surely has to be the last season of Covid nonsense.
Bring on Spring 2022.
I think we can all agree that we are lucky to have bright scientific minds advising us, such as Nicky Minaj, when people are making decisions based on a tweet from an entertainer we truly are living in reverse world.
Crumpets, completely agree with the sentiment re covid and proper data. The scientists are milking it for attention and we need this to stop.
Re flu, there were genuinely barely any cases of flu last year. Lack of travel, mask wearing, social distance, hand washing etc all played a part. It would be surprising if flu did not re-emerge this year and the worry is people will have lost some of the natural immunity due to the break from infection last year. So people, please have your jabs if you can. Atb SF, otherwise known as Nicki M
The news kinda answered my question on stats tonight.
So it was 201 deaths today that have died for ANY reason within 28 days of a positive test.
So if you have a positive test and die in a rta , cancer , old age, in your sleep ,suicide, old age, hit by a blimp , or any other reason it adds to the stats.
Unbelievable really , for all we know out the 201 , 40 may have been directly related to covid.
( note)If I mentioned a cause of death that's close to the heart right now appoligies , just used as part of the message , all deaths are horrible whatever way we look at it.
Stop listening or reading how many deaths they is because not everyone dying of covid 19
Bonkers this has been going on for 18 months, it’s an absolute disgrace. Tens of thousands of people have died, Covid put on death certificates, the NHS should hold there Heads in Shame.
Hope that is a poor attempt at sarcasm Cruis. Don’t be a ham shanker…
No I’m not been sarcastic fella. Thousands of people have died from other problems including suicide, & it’s gotta Covid on the death certificate, it’s disgusting.
