We have extended our pause but there is something closer to home to look forward to..
We are sorry to announce that cruises on Arcadia, Aurora, Azura and Ventura have been cancelled until the end of August 2021 and on Britannia and Iona until the end of September 2021. This is in response to the current restrictions on international travel.
We’re sorry to have taken this step, but there is something closer to home to look forward to. We are delighted that we will be offering a series of short UK holidays this summer. We will, of course, gradually see the return of international travel but first we want guests to be able to enjoy a holiday at sea with the best in relaxation, entertainment and dining choice.
These sailings will leave from our home port in Southampton and sail around UK coastal waters enjoying the summer sunshine.
More details of dates, prices and the experience on board will be announced later this month, but rest assured, with P&O Cruises free flexible transfers guests can book with confidence.
If you’re booked on a cancelled sailing, we'll automatically provide an enhanced Future Cruise Credit which gives you an additional 25% on top of the amount paid for your holiday.
This was on P&O Facebook page before I saw RNS. K
Terrible news but nothing is being done for the cruise industry. So depressing for the industry.
Sensible move as cruises around the UK are more likely to go ahead this summer rather than international.
Do you get 125% FCC every time you cancel?
I may have missed a trick....book cruise, cancelled - 125%, book cruise asap after current cancellation preiod, cancelled - 125%, book cruise asap after current cancellation....those 125% would have soon added up to a free cruise.
May have missed the boat (pun intended) on that.
Ha ha TS you would not be alone in that boat.
Presume the UK cruises are just sailing, no port calls. A booze cruise, I’m in !
TS.....sadly only 125% of the original purchase. Good try though.......I am on my 3rd attempt with Cunard to take QM2 to NYC.......now May 2022 hopefully :-)
K, I would expect the British cruises to stop at a number of ports in all 4 home nations as this is what they have done on previous British cruises.
A, QM2 is stunning, will be worth the wait....my tip is to fly out and cruise back. There is no luggage limit on a ship so if Mrs A goes nuts shopping in New York you can get it home without additional luggage charges (Mrs Sense is a credit card abuser so I learnt this early on :-)
Cruising only, I understand TS but hope not the case.
Aspers, TS is right, fly out, sail back or even better, roundtrip.
Even with these delays the share price very strong today.
Talkingsense........Haha, to hell with that, I would rather sail into New York as the sun comes up rather than Southampton. I was due to go May 2020, rebooked for May 2021 which is now cancelled so rebooked for May 2022.
Looking forward to getting aboard the Queen,
We’ve cancelled your Summer cruise but here’s our Winter 2022/23 offers to cheer you up.
Feck Off !!!!
While I do enjoy ship days, that tends to be in a warmer climate than the UK in October
Imagine the bars and premium restaurants would be busy on short UK trips especially if outside conditions not favourable. No doubt drinks prices and restaurant charges will be increased from the last time we cruised ( Feb 20 ) K
PO will be seeing pound signs. Booze cruises around the UK will be a big earner. I seem to remember somebody telling me that Ocean Village sold more booze than the rest of the PO fleet put together.
Must admit a booze cruise doesn't hold a lot of attraction for us but for sure would be popular with many.
Our cancelled cruise last year was British Isles but also included France, Channel Islands and Rep. of Ireland and was early summer.
Newcastle, Harwich and Swansea perhaps? Not quite the same appeal
I could think of nothing worse than a UK booze cruise, on a huge ship etc etc, we will be waiting for the international sector to open before we even contemplate booking a cruise. People coming to breakfast in there Pajamas no thank you. If the EU gets its act together and starts vaccines at a higher rate the likes of P&O could be sailing by September to Europe. I think one sure thing is CCL and others cruise companies can see light at the end of the tunnel.
Despite me labelling them “booze cruises” I think that is unlikely.
With reduced capacity most bookings will be taken up by folks using FCC so the marketing of these cruises can be low key thus not attracting the “ Benidorm at Sea “ bunch.
Further I think the prices PPPN will be high compared to longer cruises, they certainly were on earlier mini cruises.
Will proof of vaccination be required, will the younger age group be done by Summer ?
As mentioned on another thread these types of trips are good to work up the ships and train the crew in new procedures.
Just a thought to end. Will travel insurance be required? From experience it costs a minimum of £75 to cross the threshold of the onboard medical centre, even if it is just for a plaster.
This sounds more like a Cruise Forum but I see it as positive “ Green Shoots “ for CCL abut we are not out of the storm yet but I still expect some volatility as obviously it’s a very sensitive to Covid stock. K
Sp being hit by rising cost of oil - ironic really considering the fleet is laid up.
Taverham...I did predict that in my post on Monday:
"And from a investor perspective eyes will be on Carnival generating enough revenue/profit to service the debt mountain it has accumulated. With fuel prices increasing as the world returns to normal it will be yet another squeeze."
Normally they hedge fuel well in advance so surely they covered some at last years lows. K
Waiting to see the idea of cruises around the UK with Princess and P/O. Cunard has not extended the pause in operations so that's the next news. I think the share price is incredible at this level.
Hedging fuel -
They are bunkering monthly whilst at anchor.
At anchor they are running 1 DG at 6 tons an hour
On average 6 sea days a month with heading to port for stores/bunkering and inclement weather where they I'll be on 2 DGs.
Give or take - 7,000 tons of fuel per ship, per month whilst in operational pause at anchor.
Good info pappalazz, thanks, you seem well informed of the operational side of things. K
Southampton is also charging a reduced fee when it docks and takes on fuel etc.
Southampton is reduced anyway at this time at 4k a day plus pilotage fees rather than 40k a day for passenger turnaround days..
