Blurred lines... civil servants don’t change... they don’t have a summer recess like politicians or get booted out of government every 4-years. They should be working on this continuously.
If this is being decided according to the law not politics, then a caretaker government should be able to handle it....we just don't know how far into the process it is, are they scribbling away as suggested by the MI inspector when she said the paper work would be monumental?
Absolutely... and with a mandate for 4-years, let’s hope that get on with it and push it through. It’s only a signature!
I agree - this is NOT a political decision - it's one that should be based on the merits of mining and the effect on the environment - unfortunately, the Sami have made this political but, without any real support in Gov't the new Mining Minister might, just might, make a decision based on the facts. Which would be a yes.
It shouldn’t come to this really... waiting on an election outcome. I certainly want pro-mining parties in power, but the reality is, even if they are not, what low-ball could they possibly come up with to refuse?

I suspect the right will have a big say in what goes on after the election (even if they don't win) - and they are very pro mining.
Four whole days to wait .I shan't sleep a wink on Sunday night.
Polls are notoriously unreliable... They are very flawed. We’ll know more on Monday...
Don't know a polls can be statistically guaranteed when one is different from another? But we'll soon know.
Morning All.
Well, that's made my day if it's true:
".A party that is reduced in support of this measurement is the Environmental Party which falls below the four percent barrier. The party gained 5.1 percent in the August survey and received only 3.6 percent in this measurement, a decrease that is statistically guaranteed."
For the fourth Yougov measurement in a row, the Swedish Democrats are the biggest party, with 24.8 percent of the votes. The party is followed by the Social Democrats as the second largest party by 23.8 percent and the Moderates as the third largest party by 16.5 percent.
So in advance, one can still see that we would get two weakened former big parties, M and S, who have a lot of internal disappointment to handle.
Sören Holmberg, Professor Emeritus in Political Science at the University of Gothenburg, thinks that the big difference in support of the Swedish Democrats in various opinion polls is interesting for the election on Sunday.

At the highest, the Swedish Democrats are currently in Yougov's measurements, along with Sentio's latest measurement, where the party received 24.0 percent. In several other opinion polls, the party is instead around twenty-one percent. In the last poll of Ipso, the party received 16.3 percent support. However, before the 2014 elections, many underestimated SD support, says Sören Holmberg.
"It seems unnecessary to speculate, but there are big differences. There is a great deal of uncertainty in the measuring industry about how it is possible, he says.
Both the Social Democrats and the Moderates have lost support since the 2014 elections, when the Social Democrats received 31.0 percent of the votes and the Moderates 23.3 percent.
" In advance, one can still see that we would get two weakened former big parties, M and S, who have a lot of internal disappointment to handle, which makes it difficult to see from the outside how they will act. It can be fooled to each other, but it may also be that they try to increase the distance to each other, "commented Jonas Hinnfors, professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg.
A party that is reduced in support of this measurement is the Environmental Party which falls below the four percent barrier. The party gained 5.1 percent in the August survey and received only 3.6 percent in this measurement, a decrease that is statistically guaranteed.
The Christian Democrats have grown in several opinion polls recently. The party receives 4.8 percent support and therefore endures for the first time since December 2016 above the four percent barrier in a Yougov measurement.
The three red-green parties are slightly larger than the Alliance, bringing together 36.8 percent compared with 33 percent support for the Alliance. In this summary, however, it should be borne in mind that the Environmental Party does not reach up to four percent barriers.
Agreed, Eric..... tomorrow or the next day, or else.. ;-)
Nighty night x
In all fairness, we should really have our decision before Sunday. Under the present Government's tenure. Still time. Lol. Our aug59 may spit out his brew when he reads this. Evie eve. x
None of this political stuff should have affected our application Sooz, yet it absolutely has. I'm not sure it'll matter who gets in now though, Kurt will press for an early decision regardless eh? He be hellish with 'e glasses off. Lol.
You only need a short one Ed. Memory that is. :-)
Yes, I am a bit...not that I think it ultimately makes any difference for our application but if the chaps who are already in harness remain it should be faster than...directly. :-)
Hi Eric
The MMs usually do the wide spread thing when some movement is imminent. I hope that's the case now, as I could do with a bit of excitement. No Eric, not that horizontal kind of excitement. At age 75 my long term memory's disappearing rapidly so it would be of absolutely no use to me unless the "fun partner" came equipped with a book of instructions and a route map. ;o)
10% spread again. Lol.
Aye Ed. Saboteurs deserve a severe ticking off. Lol. If the odd body slam is necessary, then fair enough. Now that is exciting!
You be gripped by election fever me ol' bird. Lol.
Are you in, Andy?
Beginning to find this Swedish electoral system very interesting, its more sophisticated than ours, with an element of proportional representation. The Christian Democrats have come from 4.6% last time to 5.5 now and its got me wondering how they would fit with the Social Democrats...they probably steer clear of anything reddish, which is odd I've always thought because Jesus was a communist, wasn't he? Maybe Andy could give us the low down A
Well it's bound to be slow isn't it passing time before the election. Don't remember the bit of discussion yesterday that made you cringe about Sweden being one of the best places in the world to do mining....how would we know, we haven't had the chance to do any. But they do have a high level of expertise, world class in fact and the Boss likes it there because he's said so and he should know. The bit I liked best was the bit about the drill bit...oh the nostalgia of it in the long, long ago time. Profit, you can be in charge of doing the election commentary. :-)
Very true... The thing about principled people, is that they are often ‘selectively’ principled. It’s ok to scorch the earth in Africa to produce metals and minerals for phones, cars and dare I say, skidoo. But god forbid it occurs in Sweden! Strange when you consider the strict environmental controls, which will ensure an environmentally friendly project
There was something ironic about what the greenies did in their battle to prevent destruction of their prized greenery.
While the police twiddled their thumbs and waiting for authorisation to chase off the greenies the tree worshipers chopped down massive amounts of their beloved trees to make a barricade and for lots of barbecues. Is that ironic or what !!
To give the police there due they didn't hang around once they were told to run the greenies off the site and to arrest the leaders. I remember with pleasure the bit where one of the greenie girls tried to push a policeman out of her way. He picked her up and chucked her into a ditch. That's no more than she deserved. The greenies never retuned to the site.
Meanwhile the Swedish SP continues to creep up whilst our's stagnates
atb to all of the BEM stalwarts.
