Apologies if this has been posted before but the XIB short looks like it has been closed.
I suppose you wouldn't get out of bed for anything less.

1984.
Do you have servants in your northern castle.
And armour and shields on the wall.
And a whole pig roasting on a spit.
I'm so envious, we have nothing like it here.
Bearing in mind how tech savy you are, I would love to see a picture, to show my family the landed gentry on here.
Even adikt can't oast a real lord In his list of supporters
DBW, and there's me thinking the world had ended. Civil war, gangs roaming the streets murdering everyone in sight and a government overthrown by a drug baron. Oh, and we mustn't forget, Cascabel seized by Pablo Escobar's Ecuadorian cousin.
I think it's fair to say some people slightly over-reacted.
Thankyou DBW. An excellent ON TOPIC post! What a refreshing change from last night!
Appreciate the input from our Ecuadorean resident very much.
This is an article I was reading this morning….. wondered if it’s truly reflective of the mood on the ground.
“QUITO, Ecuador -- Not long after I posted my first picture from Quito on Facebook, the comment I was expecting came in: "Isn't Ecuador blowing up right now?"
Hardly, I thought, slightly amused as I sat in my room in the historical Casa Gangotena hotel here, listening to children gleefully chasing pigeons and puppies in the plaza outside my open window.
No, the recent eruption of cartel-related violence in the country's port city of Guayaquil isn't funny. But traveling last week in Ecuador's interior revealed a situation markedly different from the sensational headlines about the state of emergency that was declared after a cartel leader escaped from prison and his supporters seized temporary control of a Guayaquil television station three weeks ago.
While much of the country, which is unaccustomed to such brazen and public gang violence, went into a self-imposed lockdown and a few cruises were canceled or altered in the initial days after the attacks, life outside of Guayaquil last week felt just as safe and friendly as when I was here two years ago.
Quito's Old Town had the same serene vibe, with mestizo women lining the sidewalks to sell fresh fruits and vegetables; residents crowding in to get herbs and cleansing treatments from their favorite curanderas; and tourists and residents enjoying a sunny day in the park in front of the presidential palace.
To the south, in the city of Cuenca, Sunday crowds filled churches, outdoor markets and rooftop cafes. And come Monday morning, the streets were bustling with business as usual.
Noticeably missing: the military. While the president declared a state of emergency so he could call up soldiers to battle the gangs, there was little military presence outside of Guayaquil. And it was certainly nothing like the regular patrols one sees on Mexico's beaches and across that cartel-plagued country's resort towns.
In fact, during a week here in January hosted by Metropolitan Touring, traveling between Quito, the private rainforest reserve of Mashpi and Cuenca, I saw only two small groups of soldiers walking in Quito. And there was no visible military presence at either the Quito or Cuenca airports”

Wake me up when you’ve all decided who has the biggest d$ck!
Can anyone show a comment made more juvenile and moronic than "lse pay posters to post to stir up emotions" ?
Thick as a plank that one.
More lies from the most unintelligent poster on here.
Solar panels last a lot longer than thirteen years.
Try 25-30 years and a lot longer.
Also degradation rate is slight.
After 30 years still producing at 90 % capacity, so longer than 30 years.
Batteries used to be ten years or so many cycles.
New technology coming on line this year, where if treated correctly, then battery cycles may be meaningless, so again 30 years plus for battery.
Yet again Slug proves he is the most unintelligent poster on here by some considerable margin.
Evening all. I seem to have appeared on the list of paid derampers!! Best laugh I have had in ages!!

You couldn’t make it up
Go join Facebook if you want a general chat because the rest of us don't give a f*ck about your house, heat pumps or your life.
To illustrate, £10,000 at 5% per annum will give you £16,300 after 10 years
You’d need to save £1,630 per year on the leccy and hope the panels lasted to even break even
I don’t even spend that on leccy currently
Last time I did ROI on solar it ran out at 13 years which is about the lifespan of the panels and assumed that infesting my initial outlay that would have gone on panels returned 0%
If you even put that outlay in bonds, the ROI for solar panels extends markedly. It’s just not a good investment right now
Are you aware those one year high energy costs have since halved again? We’re back down to where we were late 2022
That was all just caused by inflation from western money printing during furlough. It always was and still is transitory
The most stupid thing they’ve done is ramp interest rates which is queuing up a monumental new credit event which will need zero rates and you guessed it QE on steroids to get out of.
(PS this is why a good play is a wonderful idea right now)
I never did spend £450 a month on diesel and even at their peak my dual fuel bill was £550 for one month
Everybody’s situation is different but I return to those 21 million gas boiler homes. A third of which haven’t got £100 in their account for non essentials
It is clear this is never going to happen. Same with EVs, look how many old smokers worth £2k or less are on our roads. These cars don’t exist and never will and there aren’t enough people who have £50k to commit to a new car. Those who did in the past would expect a beemer or merc not a bloody ugly jelly mould like a Tesla
Did solg diversify into heat pumps overnight.
Interesting to see 1984 feels the need to bring his northern castle in to support his argument.
The last time we had the heat pump debate, adikt felt the need to bring his nuclear physicist neighbour in, to support his argument.
Do any UK residents not own 500000000 solg shares, live in castles, have normal neighbors. Own cattle stations, work in the money markets.,
Own there own companies, are ex ceo of large companies. Spend 6 months a year living in the sun, know ceo of large companies, have huge boats, are experts in all things, the list goes on.
Where do visitors to your little make believe world go, if they want to meet normal people
Honestly 1984, I pay attention to what things cost, our account was slightly in debit at £341 a month and prices increased dramatically….. £866 wasn’t that far out.
In terms of costs why would I spend £6k on another battery and inverter 14 months later if I had made such a silly decision.
I don’t cherry pick figures to fit the narrative, I just don’t put everything on a spreadsheet but I do know I am saving an absolute fortune which is what I intended. Yes I have outlayed a considerable chunk of capital but I have a much warmer more efficient house, I don’t spend £450 a month on diesel, or £340 on heating the house. I can cool our house in the summer if it’s 30°c outside and all this will cost me nothing this year. Even on your figures my costs are returned in 4 years and I suspect I will actually make a 4 figure sum this year!!!!
Quady
We are with octopus, they are very very good.
I’m pretty sure we are better off with our current tariff than the cosy or flux tariffs.
Our house is much warmer with heat pumps than it ever was with a gas boiler !!!!!
What they ask you to change your direct debit to and what the bill is are two different things. Energy firms are notorious for grotesquely over charging to protect themselves
You of course cherry picked this data just as you cherry picked the omission of the enormous outlay on your virtue signalling energy system to try and make it look viable
It’s this simple. If the ROI was great, we’d all be banging the doors of solar/heat pump companies down to get them installed
The truth is it costs a fortune and the mugs that fall for it then spend a lifetime trying to justify their stupid decisions using selective facts
Rgcl2
Our DD in 2021 was £350 a month gas & electric
2022 they asked us to increase it to £866 a month but I had already initiated pv, battery, heat pump installation, bills came in at £125 a month.
I can export at double the cost I can import. May - September will easily cover the cost of nov-March. Now free chargers have pretty much disappeared my costs since October also include charging 3 EVs at home.
It says they won’t install one which is the point I made not that nobody will. But what would the cost be? I’m estimating around £40,000 to maybe save £1500 per annum on gas. Is that a sensible ROI for me? Of course not
Same for solar. My needs would require a huge outlay and it’s not sunny up here in the north so it wouldn’t pay. It’s very basic maths that even glib could do at a push.
EV sales have saturated and are now in decline. I ave predicted this for a good few months now but again that is totally obvious if you’re not one of the champagne socialist Volvo drivers in mustard cords brigade.
Time and again I am right. I called 0% interest rates in 2007 when my bank manager laughed In my face. I see things pragmatically not via endless propaganda
0% rates will be back. net zero will be kicked into the long grass by successive governments, EVs will find their niche as city runarounds but will peak at about 25% sales
Oh dear Slug, where do I start to address your lies.
Firstly, the octopus energy letter that says you cannot have a heat pump doesn't say you cannot have one.
That situation used to exist, it's common to have two or more.
Next if you need a bigger heat pump buy a bigger heat pump.
Supermarket's and garden centres use them and have no trouble.
Next if you have a big house, then solar will mean zero bills as you will earn more in the summer than you will spend in the winter.
Next EV sales are rising not declining.
Just look at world wide EV sales year on year.
Time and time again you convict yourself as being the most unintelligent poster on here.
I’m not a climate denier, it always has and always will change. It’s just got sweet FA to do with burning fossil fuels. If it did, do you think Chinese and Indian people would willingly burn the equivalent of a U.K. output of fossil fuels more every year? Do they love their children less than we love ours?
What we have here is a scam, pushed into the minds of the stupid by a program of propaganda endorsed by big tech, big pharma and big China
EV sales are in reverse. There is no way they will replace ICE vehicles. Nothing to do with “dinosaurs” and everything to do with practicality, cost and common sense
There are some valid concerns over the lack of infrastructure and health of the ageing UK grid slowing down the transition to EVs, but the long term trend is not going anywhere. When the rest of the market catch up with Tesla and more of the 'original' EVs enter the second hand market, they will be cheaper and more accessible. This, combined with the fact that younger people are less likely to be climate change deniers like 1984, will see EVs gradually take over.
Triumph if was surrounding whether solgold is a gold or a copper play or both
It’s clearly a gold play given that net zero is basically finished. It’s all over bar the shouting. That said, the copper may still be of use to us even though the world won’t be going carbon free and EVs are the Betamax imminent of the 2000s
