@L&L they can its now all based on politics, following the science went out the window months ago.
On the ground I don't know whats happening in terms of testing and tracing. I would like to think they are clamping down and tracing all contacts. We know how quick it can get out of control
Ad4you, well done, I’ve also been posting Indian variant numbers for the last few weeks. 1723 cases now!!!
Why the fcuk can’t the government see what we see and act sooner. This could really fcuk us if we don’t mass test and trace and isolate. Boris, the bucket of sand is not working!!!
As much as I want to put more cash into this atm with the share price the level it is, I'm already over exposed.
I know I'm going to regret it but got to keep a level head nothing is guaranteed
@HarChris, yh thats a fair point, I'm probably a bit to close to it all and am being overly pessimistic, its a cross I have to bear ;),
Time will tell and tbh since the kids went back we have had no spikes of infection, at least any reported, which I was expecting so we will see.
Testing is here to stay though, so taking a positive from s negative i may eventually get my original investment back....
Plans are being made to have them available by the Autumn, at least for the 9 or 10 million considered vulnerable/most at risk. I don't think we'll have anything concrete regarding boosters for a month or two though...
When are booster jabs scheduled to be available please.
I haven't seen any dates, but my research has not included booster availability.
When it comes to investing here none of that matters. I think it's possible to have 65% of the current market cap in cash (it will be being invested so only hypothetically speaking) by the end of 2021 so investing at this price is an absolute no brainer. I also think there's every chance Graham and the team will make a success of transforming novacyt into a midcap business valued at £1-2b within a few years.
Fair enough. I think there's a resignation right now that we aren't ever going to vaccinate the world fast enough to prevent further mutations. Even if they were able to, the vaccine uptake in the young simply isn't high enough to eliminate the problems you've raised.
I'm not convinced the situation is as dire as you think it is though. Let's not forget last year we were dealing with a novel coronavirus. The best the scientists could do was create a vaccine over a period of about 9 months and then start building the distribution networks and supply chains afterwards. The current vaccines contain/mimic strains first circulating over 18 months now so it's no surprise that soon boosters will be needed. I do think going forward yearly covid vaccines alongside the flu jabs will be enough to prevent serious illness and deaths at anything like the rate the world has sadly endured over the past year. Sars coV-2 mutates at about half the rate of flu so at least in that regard creating effective vaccines is less of a challenge and with the mRNA technology now new vaccines can be created in super quick time.
@HarChris As I said, I hope I'm wrong and I'll try to keep this brief as I hate reading long posts. Yes, the vaccine does give us a level of protection that should prevent serious illness to the original strains but not immunity.
Its a global problem, some countries have barely started vaccination.
The longer covid circulates, the more mutations.
In a dichotomy globally of vaccinated/non vaccinated we may inadvertently select out super strains.
Mindset currently in UK, vulnerable protected, youngsters not arsed as it doesn't effect them..yet
Country opening up fully on Monday, holiday season upon us, airlines saying lfts are OK. Ppl travelling globally then coming home.
We already have several variants with increased resistance to vaccine.
New vaccine boosters planned to current variants, by the time population of UK given booster, more variants will emerge, we will constantly be playing catch up,
Experts closely monitor variants with the escape gene, if or rather when one emerges back to square one.
I'd just add, I'm no expert, I have some knowledge about the subject but nothing special.
Nobody's safe until everyone is safe, globally, thats the challenge.
Seeing a fit 50 Yr old guy succumb to covid last night in the documentary brought me to tears tbh.
Spanish Flu killed off the frail in 1st wave, then came back for the youngsters. I don't want to see that happen again but everyone in the UK seems to think it's over. Its not.
Pray I'm wrong
@HarChris
Is that in reference to the U.K. or Worldwide ?
We're not safe until we're all safe.
Vaccines certainly seem to be effective in reducing hospitalisations and deaths but unknowns still remain around the duration of their effectiveness and prevention of other long term illnesses which can be very debilitating.
Poidster you seem a sensible fella, do you not believe in the effectiveness of vaccines? I know they aren't 100% but they aren't far off when it comes to preventing severe illness. Variants will cause issues but boosters yearly should prevent anything like we saw from March 2020 to February 2021...
Personally I'm very optimistic about the future. I think testing will be around for a little while but think as far as novacyt are concerned they'll be pivoting into new testing areas/genetic surveillance from 2022 onwards.
Actively encouraged it seems by some of the recent highly publicised experiments.
Liverpool Festival, Brit Awards etc..
Poidster - totally agree, unfortunately.
Many / most of those clubbing, pubbing etc and not social distancing are in the age groups who have not yet been vaccinated.
I'm can't help but think we will be in some form of lockdown before the summer is out. Rinse n repeat.
Vaccines alone will not get us out of this, I fear we are going to have to get used to a new normal for quite a while which includes social distancing, masks in public spaces and lots of testing. Everyone needs to wise up to this. Not sure if anyone watched the documentary Hospital on BBC2 last night.
The harsh reality of covid was laid bare, it's impact on the NHS, not just from covid but its impact on other healthcare.
I hope I'm wrong I can't see us getting out of this cycle for a long time
Daily Mail / FT reporting -
AstraZeneca's Covid vaccine appears to be protecting people from the Indian variant of the virus, reports suggest.
There are concerns the Indian variants, which have started spreading in the UK, could make jabs less effective and risk vaccinated people getting sick anyway.
But in a case of 33 care home workers getting infected after vaccination in Delhi, India, none became seriously ill with the virus, the Financial Times reports.

We still don't really know how long vaccines are effective for either !
We are basically all still guinea pigs like the trials carried out on the kids given a carrot to turn up to festivals etc...
When will MP's get back to "normal" business in Parliament ?
Looks like some areas will end up back in tiers (or tears).
The vaccines will work against all variants? Not necessarily, flu vaccine has to be reformulated every year. There is currently little data on tbe effectiveness of vaccines against the Indian variant. What about countries where vaccine take up is low? Does the vaccine provide 100% protection?? There are still a lot of unknowns.
Could spread of Indian variant jeopardise plans to ease lockdown? Strain is now DOMINANT in four areas where cases have soared by up to 93% in a week - as minister warns tiered restrictions are still on the cards amid rise of hotspots in the North
