I've got a couple of working theories going on at the moment. They are only theories of course.
Had the Brain's announcement not come through today (close to or after hours) I'd have said that it would have been possible that Platinum could well have put a firm o r improved offer in, and an announcement made to the markets made on Monday.
If Fairdealer is correct, RF could have put this announcement in to deter them from progressing with any offer. This would then cause a retrace in the sp.
We'll see what happens.
Londoner, IMO yes it will deter a bidder. The Brains estate has no asset value to Marstons and importantly PI's do not know what binding conditions are within the Agreement. As stated recently, one does not know what RF's game is.
Apart from market sentiment today within the sector. Whitbreads up over 3.5% and MAB up almost 9%. it will be surprising if we do not see the SP retracing on Monday.
Have a feeling the Deal completion with Brain's has been brought forward, maybe wrong but had thought it was mid-month. It could be a deliberate block on any further offer from Platinum.
Hope Ralph knows what he is doing.
Good evening all,
Is the timing of the Brains transaction, after hours, significant?
Could it in anyway deter a potential bidder?
Thanks
Happy day today, this is my first post and after nearly a year we hit the £1 of which I was after best buy I have ever done and now £10000 in the bank from a £3000 investment.
:)
agurney - at no point did I say the discount included drinks? I said in the first paragaph that I enjoy their pubs and food as justifications to why I'm invested and want to hold long term, but I didn't say what the discounts included. I merely said the 20% was a great incentive. Unless you're referring to my remark about the drinks being on me, I can see how you'd get that impression.
Knowing it's being discontinued, I'll sit tight and see what they replace the scheme with if at all. I hope they do! Regardless, I'm holding long term!
I believe that it is being replaced with a more modern scheme, not discontinued per se. After all, it doubles up as the staff discount card too.
Ben
If that is the case, then the extra non discount spend that we make could go into our dividend pot.
Marstons are discontinuing the privilege card. They will honour it for another year but will end in 2022. I'm gutted.
Stowthorns, looks like that's not the only thing you misread - the discount's on food & accommodation, not booze.
some shares purchased at very low levels.
Still retain a large holding for the longer term
Perhaps I misread, thanks for correcting me. Looks like I'm off to apply for it! Beers/largers/ciders on me haha
Stowthorns, You can apply for the privilege card at any time as long as you can prove you hold 500 or more shares.
Investor confidence is the highest since May, genuine perception that things will return back to normal which simultaneously means a return to normal SP levels. I have always thought that leisure stocks are best suited for the post-pandemic world. This will follow in line with MAB and continue to increase. IMO- £1.30 by Spring
Meet you at the local which happens to be a Marstons! Beers on me! Oh damn, will have to wait 4 weeks and then be celebrating £1.50p
My average is 69.164p, whilst I certainly never expected £1 so soon this is a long term holder for me, especially given dividends when they do eventually come back into play. Plus I personally feel this is an all round safe holding. I'm also in SGC and TUI and it's the same for those 2 as it is MARS, if the price drops significantly (sub 50p for MARS) then I'll happily buy more! However I honestly can't see it going below 80p unless something dramatic happens. The potential takeover offer has certainly peaked my interest, like a few others here I just don't want them to mess with the company should they takeover. I like MARS, I enjoy the pubs/food and have stayed in their accommodation a number of times. Here's to a long enjoyable holding and a safer, pubbier future!
After Tastees mentioned the 20% shareholder discount it's even more of an inclination to hold for longer! Especially as the discount is only for Privilege Card holders and they get sent out every 2 years. Looks like September 2022 is when I'll get mine! If you held at least 500 shares on or before 30th September 2020, you'll be entitled to a card this time around - https://privilegecard.marstons.co.uk
She’s made it ??
Seems to only be heading in one direction - at 100p+ clearly the market believes another offer is likely - they certainly won't be getting it for 105. Makes the weekend a bit more interesting.......
Onnnneeeee huuuundred :-)
(Now 180p for the perfect darts tally!)
Momentum is an overused phrase, s can I in an overused way say Marstons is driving towards £1-50 and there is momentum! The 18p SP in March 2020 seems a long way away.
Could well do
Yes
Just touched 98p - looking interesting.....
Will this have a positive effect on sp tomorrow?
YoYoMa
Not even 10 bob, more like 9 shillings & sixpence !
But then we were always a a few steps behind eh ?
Very good to see the updates via their news dept are consistent, some good info this week given out. Today they released a shareholders notice. Personally I think the "up for Sale" is already in motion. Coming in at 38p back in the dark days we took a huge chance throwing what we did at it. I thought this was going to be a long term however my brother said we'll see how it pans out. Along the way we've had much banter but of late the board has been tarnished with some ill comments so best held back. We do hope you are all well and I guess it's all in the hands of the BoD.
On a lighter note (smirk) can you imagine selling up at 10bob and seeing todays price!
