.....and I don't drive a big car :-), but I would imagine you've just tarred me with a brush you should have used on yourself. Maybe you're not Cun-trarian after all, just so poorly endowed your manhood isn't detectable.
Contrarian, I hate to burst your bubble about the 1000 apprentices, having been through the process myself, the youngest were early twenties up to mid fifties. Often employees made redundant in other business areas and bringing a negative perspective of the company with them. It was termed an apprenticeship so that the company could claim funding from the European Union. Not sure where this will be funder now, but of the 52 weeks apprentiship duration required to falsify for funding, only 21 weeks were training with a single day in the training centre at week 52 to qualify for payment.
I'm not surprised that you have had negative experience with BG engineers though. I would also bend over backwards for the pleasant customers and do the bare minimum for the arrogant, self-centred rude ones.
I don’t think they should fire and rehire. Just FIRE!!
Connnntrarian123 biggy smalls .explain jobs worth ?
Aspers
I've been in BP for longer than I care to remember. Started when the gulf of Mexico disaster occurred and was buying when no-one was touching BP. Thanks for the tip. I am clearly not on the board but one bad apple (Conn) does not spoil the whole bunch. As for shafting workers. I think they should be getting market rate. 80% have accepted. It is the usual moaners like the guy below who like to do minimal work for maximum gain. I have had experience of BG technicians coming around my house and they were all jobs worths. This is why I keep on maintaining that BG should focus on volume and leave the niche stuff and the so called BS of service to indie outfits that can potentially charge extra for the discerning customer. Most customers are not discerning they want cheap bills with the appearance of customer service. Positive change from me was an announcement about 1000 apprentices. Lets get the young guns in that can have a smiley face and possibly not be as institutionalised jobs worths like the current technicians are
I detect a small something syndrome. I presume you also drive a very big car!
Not loosing more than I can afford and TBH I have such a low average on CNA I am just waiting for the GMB to go away and double my investment this year.
Contrarian.......are you on the board of directors with CNA? Sounds like it by your comments......lets feck the workers and continue to line our own pockets with gold as that feckwitt Conn has being doing the past few years. You say earlier that this Company is not run for the workers but for the investors.......well as a past investor they have done a pretty crap job of that and from what I see continue to do so. Lets sell off all the money making assets so we can line the director’s pockets more......feck the poor private investor.
If you want a well run company that despite these hard times is still paying a good dividend I suggest you move your money into BP and reap the benefits there.
Oh Cun-trarian. I so hope you're showing a massive loss on this and any other investments you may have. Me,I'm going through the motions seeing out my notice, sat at home most days without any call outs seeing as we are currently on emergency calls only. Living the dream, 2x contribution pension transferred to a SIPP this time last year and reinvested very successfully quadrupling my pot. Isa maxxed up in EUA at average 3.4p , just awaiting the deal, taking advantage of full pay for limited effort. As my pal would say "minimum effort, maximum gain", ( I use quotation marks because I'm directly quoting him). For my fellow engineers and union reps, keep up the good fight and don't let the armholes in and out of the company get you down.
Aspers are you still invested in Centrica? I tell you what if you do recoup your losses why don't you setup a charity fund for those moaning engineers
From my experience over the lastop 10 yrs, I can say, without doubt, that all companies are "Run" for the benefit of the "Management" Mr Conn!
I have no intention to work for 12p/h. in the conditions you describe. Let me give a lesson in economics 101. Supply and demand. Clearly there is a lot of "engineers" (quotes are used because really they are technicians), thus the rate is low. If there were few the rate would be higher. Clearly the ones not happy with 12 p/h can get another job or take some risk like I do and become a freelancer and invest my own capital. You cannot have absolute job security and financial means by having a secure job and it being well paid. Welcome to the real world
If you want employees to share profits then I suggest they should join John Lewis. The company is run for the profit of shareholders. Its a tough world
You haven’t heard a peep from the loyal engineers..you didn’t hear anything about them staying working when Covid-19 ripped through the country..also volunteered to deliver food parcels
You’re only heard about them when they were threatened with the sack if they didn’t sign an appalling contact
This guy o shea wants to make a name for himself...by being billy big boll..x...why would you want to pi..off a loyal workforce when you make big profits on that side of the busses
Now you might explain why the select committee/leaders of all political parties have been against this 1970s form of negotiations
****rarian, you couldn't have chosen a better name for yourself. IT contractor eh. Let's see you on £12/hr working in wet, cold dirty conditions sometimes in well dodgy areas , and unsociable on call hours. Stuck up pratts like you are the ones that need a reality check. You wouldn't last a week doing an engineers job and would be the whineiest little ***** out there.
Contrarian......you really come across as a bit of an arrogant feckwitt........the problem with CNA is not the engineers but just plain bad management over the past few years. I hope you never find yourself in a situation where your employer wants to reduce your pay and conditions.
CNA has proven to be a dog over the past 3 years to most long term holders and to be honest I cannot see anything that they are doing right now that will change my view. The last trading update was one of the worst I have read in my share investing life.....if you actually read between the lines you will realise what they were trying to say. I will never for the life of me understand why they are selling off all the crown jewels as to me that was the bread and butter of the company.
Contrarian123, Sorry to be blunt, but you don't have a clue what your talking about.
Thanks for that, I did not realise. -centrica announced Conn to step down after reporting six month pre-tax loss-Centrica announced Conn to get £3.7m pay package-centrica boss gets 44% pay rise after challenging year. I don’t think they realise either that bad management gets them the sack. Would it not be better for every employee to make a profit,is that not their job also?
The free market works both ways when it comes to shares. One can make money on the way down as well as the way up. The engineers in my experience have been the major pain in the backside at Centrica. I am blunt but its true - all I kept hearing about was moaning. They are there to make a profit for the company that is their job. Bad management decisions in the end get reflected in people getting the sack and their reputation suffers.
Contrarin123- love it-The rest of us thrive in an open and free market-share price seven year’s ago £3.98 today with a 40% uplift this year is 52.68. If engineers are still putting profits in, it can only be the decision makers to blame
But they turn a healthy profit, do you agree ?
Right back at you! I propose that it is the delinquent engineers that are the parasites here stuck in the union ways. The rest of us thrive in an open and free market
And yet this side the company made a healthy profit last year. Would you like this increase next year. If it was up to the investors the company would not survive, we have different objectives, parasites survive the same way until the host dies.
I was twice employed by Centrica trading and British Gas services as an IT contractor. Always the so called engineers who are nothing but trained technicians following a script, complained about working conditions, pay etc etc. I have no sympathy for these moaners. They want a cushy number. They should get out in the real world and freelance if they think they deserve better. who works 37 hours and gets overtime these days.
Hell
Heres an idea, what about not paying Ian Conn and his successor massive salary and bonuses for failure. What about making their pay performance based, profit, churn and SP related. Cut the management deadwood, make cuts and fire/ rehire from the top down, and maybe then the engineers might consider that it isn't always them that are getting the chappy end of the stick and 'we're all in this together.
Thankfully, my resignation is in, I'm out of there in the next couple of months retired at 52 having had a monster couple of years trading, but let me tell you working for BG as an engineer is frustrating as he'll.
