I think unlikely from a regulatory standpoint. But yes, process, process, process. They are the kings.
Great post hano - I mean they well be making automated machines but yes they are experts in process. Maybe they will surprise us all by making them in a mass scale way as well - if they have the space why not?
My guess is they hare helping with the design of the whole large scale manufaturing process. A bunch of machines doesn't help if you don't have the inbound and outbound logistics in place, and the material handling automated. The current LFT manufacturing setup is a cottage industry beside what guys like Toyota live and breath every day. The book 'The Toyota Way' which is the foundation text for Just in Time and Continuous Improvement has been the blueprint for much of the industrial process innovation for the past 20 years and more.
Templar - Toyota heavily based in Derbshire which is where Ginolis have also set up shop for helping the roll out of their heavily government bought LFT automated machines. Wonder if their is a connection here - so rather than Toyota actually producing LFTs maybe it is manufacturing the machinery - on its own or possibly in partnership with Ginolis or another company such as Huxley Bartram. This would have echoes of the ventilator partnership early in the pandemic. Machiney has quite a long lead in time and this might be a way of speeding things up.
There is no rivalry between ODX and Avacta
Once upon a time there was but the comparison then - compared to now is now much the same as Stockport county and Manchester City used to be - but now is :-)
Suits love folks switching between AVCT & ODX......it’s how they make their brass, with posters on here stoking the rivalry.
Looks like some of ODX profits from yesterday, making it's way back here.
No no no. The test needs to go out now. No more waiting. Modifications can be made later. Already lost billions to china. Get the flipping test out as it is
What makes you think that?
Just as the first booster shots will be administered in autumn, it is likely testing will adapt to new variants / strains
Would be ironic though, after a year or more of development, if they had to start fiddling with the reagents now. Still their ability to do so is a USP for sure.
Would a key consideration be a tests ability to pick up the new Indian variant? I would say avacta is very well placed to be able to adapt the test quickly to this. I have not been reading this forum much as it has been unreadable for a couple of months, apologies if this has been discussed at length.
When you think about it, how else can they get back to (near) normal and open up the travel industry in particular?
"the UK must make SUBSTANTIAL PURCHASES of tests during a short manufacturing window."
While it does not say ‘it is us’ it IS a very clear signal of intent. There can be absolutely no doubt what the future of mass testing looks like.
Neither can there be any doubt about the fact that the vaccine programme is just one strand to this anti-virus warfare. Mass testing is the other major consideration and will likely be required in vaccinated nations so long as there are variants emerging.
Terrifying to think this is the new normal. Potentially incredible news for us.
Yes, i know its all that has been talked about since last night but i just had to give it a more interesting heading as thus is such a huge new developement.
Imagine AVCT LFT tests flying off the Toyota production lines Worldwide if they decided to go that route as well.
Anyway, its great news at a time when we were all beginning to doubt the resolve of the UK government and i suspect the renewed urgency is down to the UK arrival of the Indian variant.
New UK Government TOYOTA LFT contract
https://bidstats.uk/tenders/2021/W18/750256532
THERE ARE GENUINE REASONS FOR EXTREME URGENCY
MULTIPLE TESTS BEING PROGRESSED THROUGH TO CERTIFICATION AND APPROVAL
It is impossible to comply with the usual timescales in the PCR
It is not possible to comply with the timescales of another procedure due to the urgent requirement to ensure effective surge capacity.
A KEY element of ensuring an effective response to the pandemic is ensuring that there is adequate testing.
Therefore, ensuring surge LFT capacity, including sufficient availability of Lateral Flow Tests, is CRITICAL.
Mass testing of the UK Population is a KEY step in bringing the Pandemic under control. (Lateral Flow Tests produce quicker results than the current PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test, and do not require a lab processing step.) LFT tests have only recently become viable as a means of testing, with multiple tests being progressed through to certification and approval.
the UK must make substantial purchases of tests during a short manufacturing window.
DHSC has been tasked with ensuring security of supply of a critical consumable asset (Lateral Flow Antigen tests) in a volatile and competitive global market place.
This contract pursues that mandate by providing critical support to LFT manufacturers to scale up their production to meet the quantities mandated by the UK government for the programme.
