I think Avacta is having to cope with rapid growth. Operational challenges to go from being essentially a tech provider is a very small market to bring a supplier of end product to a huge national and global market are huge. I comment with quite a hard line regarding info flow but to be fair the company is having to learn fast, good luck to the employees.
No pr... no effort spent....will that result in less revenue or value creation, I doubt it. Good there is some focus for limited resources.
Lobbying powers that be is important, best tech doesn’t always win.
That said don’t get the impression that production of multiple diagnostic tests is anything that interests the board. Therapies on the other hand are long term.
Wait for the technology transfer RNS before counting your chickens, too much Rampage on here tonight, IMHO!
Good to know, Muck, thanks! Not exactly a lightweight.
Haven't all of those that have had press coverage at early stages gone and been found out? Has there been any positive news stories that have not just fallen by the wayside? Maybe noyacyte, but it's only the last 6 weeks where it's gone above £2.50.
Let's just leave the press to where got something, else there'll be more whining that it's taking too long from sun and mirror readers.
@Cautious - agree that the HP article all but names Avacta. Always useful to consider the credentials of those that author such pieces, in this case Paul Waugh
“Paul Waugh is Executive Editor, Politics, for HuffPost UK, based in London. With 20 years of experience reporting from the House of Commons, he provides news, insight and analysis and is author of the daily WaughZone newsletter/blog. Paul is a presenter of the BBC Radio 4's Week in Westminster. Before joining HuffPost in 2015, he was editor of PoliticsHome, and deputy political editor at the London Evening Standard and the Independent.“
So not some newbie Hack but an experienced guy likely to have great sources.
@CautiousOptimist
Great summary :D
Fredluck, just look at this article:
https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/boris-johnson-moonshot-tiers_uk_5f89fb4fc5b66ee9a5efcc47
They mention tech-transfer, BBI, Abingdon, and the BIVDA letter that was brought up on this forum, but fail to use the name “Avacta”. It’s almost like they’ve been told “don’t mention Avacta”, then gone - “ooh, Avacta, eh?” and done some research and reported everything they can about the organisations around Avacta at that time.
A few other pointers, with apologies to all for whom these are merely reminders:
- There was a poster (Ben^4?) on here who mentioned based on his interactions with personal media connections that he was pretty confident there was an NDA in place.
- Big Al himself in the last investor presentation saying something along the lines of: “detailed discussions with the government were ongoing” that enabled them to position Avacta “to (help) meet the national need”, but “he couldn’t say any more at this moment in time”.
- A snippet in the Daily Mail city talk shares tip column a couple weeks back suggested that there were rumours in the city that Avacta CEO Alistair Smith was at the heart of government talks around Operation Moonshot.
- When the gov is talking about ramping up manufacturing for the coming LFT’s, which they say will be produced (although not necessarily exclusively) in the UK, Avacta have signed deals with the top 2 LFT producers in the UK (to my potentially limited knowledge) and they are increasing their manufacturing capacity.
So I’d say 99% yes there’s a media black-out going on! S’all cool.
News just in NCYT has a product that works and the sp has gone above £11, news with AVCT no product and we now know the CEO is buying a house, spot the difference with a company delivering and a jam tomorrow company.
Breaking news: Big Al's on through the keyhole next week. Shumper time!
Has anyone ever heard any press or PR about any test manufacturer prior to the govt signing them up? Nope. Me either. Why would we be different?
I suspect it’s because the press and public don’t care, it’s not interesting.
News just in: Test manufacturer you’ve never heard of might have a test at some point in Q4. Wow!
MI5 (nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more squire!)
Fredluck, I’ve taken the silence rom Avacta to be a very positive sign that the company is at the heart of UK Gov plans for COVID. If Avacta did not have a central role to play, and thus no NDA , then I’d imagine that their PR would be screaming from the rooftops to get noticed. This particular silence is golden!
Yellow Jersey may have got a puncture.
Probably due to NDA’s imposed by UK Govt
Am I alone in wondering why Avacta appears to have so little national press coverage when in appears to be on the verge of producing what may be the world's best LFT? Is this based on wide-spread scepticism that it will never happen or what?
Or is it a function of pretty poor PR by Avacta itself?
I simply don't understand why there is not a lot more interest in the company, or have I missed it?
