IntelliSAW announces confirmed orders of USD 550k.

11 April 2012

Transense Technologies plc (the 'Company' or 'Transense')

Transense Technologies plc (AIM: TRT), the provider of sensor systems for the transportation and industrial markets, is pleased to announce that its trading division, IntelliSAW, a leading provider of next generation wireless sensor systems for smart grid applications, has succeeded in satisfying the conditions on previous conditional orders totalling USD275k. It has also received a further significant order to the value of USD275k. This takes the total orders for its IS485 Wireless switchgear monitoring system from this sales region to an aggregate USD 550k.

The IntelliSAW system, which provides temperature monitoring of critical electric power switchgear equipment in Smart Grid applications, is being deployed in electrical power distribution assets in Asia where it will provide vital performance data to enhance the robustness of the power grid. Industry experts estimate the market opportunity for sensors in Smart Grid applications to reach $85.5bn by 2014*.

Graham Storey, CEO of Transense, commented "We are delighted with the speed at which the IntelliSAW solution is gaining traction within the market, and believe this is indicative of the compelling value proposition that the IS485 family provides to the electrical switchgear monitoring market compared to legacy solutions. We have secured a number of strategic channel partners in the key smart grid growth regions such as Asia, South America and the Middle East. With sales momentum building we are optimistic that our strategy of driving commercial success by leveraging existing Transense IP directly through our trading divisions, in addition to our existing licensing model, will provide a number of growing revenue streams."

About IntelliSAW

IntelliSAW, a trading division of Transense Technologies plc (AIM: TRT.L), develops and markets patent protected wireless, passive surface acoustic wave (SAW) based sensing systems targeted at challenging industrial applications. Its IS485 family of products provides temperature monitoring of critical electric power switchgear equipment in Smart Grid applications.

IntelliSAW's proprietary solution is wireless and does not require any power to the sensors, affording ease of installation and system commissioning while avoiding introducing any arcing or flashover concerns. Moreover the IntelliSAW system outputs data directly onto existing communication networks using standard protocols, allowing for instantaneous monitoring and control.

The IS485 platform brings an advanced feature set as compared to legacy solutions on the market today, including twelve independent sensor frequencies and four antenna connections per reader which combined allow for up to 48 sensors per system. Further innovative advances in interrogation protocols, differential sensor topology, and microcontroller architecture serve to resolve a number of known issues with existing solutions including sensor drop-out, challenging system set-up processes, positional dependence of sensor calibration, and non-compliance to high voltage application environments.
