("Albemarle & Bond" or "the Company")
DirectorateΒ Changes
Albemarle & Bond, theΒ UK's leading pawnbroking businessΒ by number of stores, announcesΒ the following changes to its board of directors.
Barry Stevenson has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer with effect from 14 September 2009 succeedingΒ Greville NichollsΒ who will become ChairmanΒ with immediate effect. Following a period of ill health, Charles Nicolson today steps down as Chairman.Β
GrevilleΒ NichollsΒ has been Chief Executive Officer for the last 14 years and overseen the Company's successful expansionΒ strategyΒ since its introduction toΒ AIM. The Board believes that given the specialist nature of the business Mr. Nicholls' appointmentΒ as ChairmanΒ willΒ ensure continuity and a smooth transition.Β These Board changes represent careful succession planning and are, the Board believes, a natural progressionΒ for the Company.
Sterling Brinkley, currently a Non-executive Director of the Company has been appointed Deputy Chairman with immediate effect. SterlingΒ is the Chairman of the Board at EZ Corp, a market leading pawnbroker in theΒ USΒ and Albemarle & Bond's largest shareholder. His appointmentΒ furtherΒ strengthens the top level of the board as the Company continues pursue to its long term business strategy.
Barry StevensonΒ hasΒ extensive experience at high profileΒ companies. Most recentlyΒ he was atΒ Wyevale Garden CentresΒ where heΒ was CEO. Prior to this he was retail director and aΒ member of the executive committee at Marks and Spencer plc,Β where his responsibilities included the development and roll out of the Simply Food format. Barry joined Marks and Spencer in 2001 having previously spentΒ 6 years in a variety ofΒ seniorΒ roles at B&Q plc, includingΒ ManagingΒ Director ofΒ theΒ B&Q SupercentresΒ business.
Greville Nicholls commented:
"The BoardΒ are delighted toΒ announce the appointment ofΒ BarryΒ StevensonΒ and weΒ believeΒ thatΒ he has the necessary experienceΒ and visionΒ toΒ continueΒ Albemarle & Bond'sΒ impressive levelΒ of growth and development. BarryΒ hasΒ aΒ proven history of creating shareholder value with a strong record ofΒ implementation,Β deliveringΒ against demanding targets and leadingΒ successful teamsΒ in a highly competitive and customer focused environment.
Albemarle & BondΒ hasΒ grownΒ successfullyΒ and greatly evolvedΒ since its inception in 1983. The appointment of Sterling Brinkley as Deputy Chairman provides us with a robust top level board of directors who are highly experienced and knowledgeable about the sectorΒ whichΒ enhancesΒ our ability toΒ sustainΒ growth.
On behalf of the Board I would like to acknowledge the importantΒ roleΒ Charles Nicolson has played inΒ the success ofΒ Albemarle & Bond. We are grateful for his contribution and wish him well in the future."
Barry Stevenson commented:
"This is an exciting time forΒ Albemarle & BondΒ and I greatly look forward to contributing in its continued success. The business hasΒ outstanding potentialΒ to benefit from positive market conditions and deliver further growth."
