Not sure if other cruise share followers spotted the NCL announcement yesterday

It seems a try at positive spin, but it's worrying that operators are failing get enough profit from cabin sales and are instead renting the ships out.

One sailing i did with an unnamed company, the bottle of wine i ordered at dinner, in a Spanish port, was not billed to my account until later in the evening. Strange that we were out of Spanish waters when the bill came around 😉

I don't know your age profile IWH, but what surprised me when chatting to people around the ship on my last two recent Cunard cruises, was the amount of people saying they will be moving away from Cunard to Saga. For exactly the same reason you cite for P&O.

I wish I had your confidence but I'm not sure I'd agree that the 'tariffs have no impact on CCL'.

When people see their investments and pensions have fallen and the cost of goods in the shops rising substantially, they will choose food over cruising.

Even those in the US that say they are not impacted (I'll buy US goods), will find that those too are made with imported parts. And even if they aren't, by putting barriers on non US items, prices of US goods will rise as demand will be chasing smaller supply.

It's all a bit of a mess.

Personally I can't see it working. We are no longer operating in the 1800s. But what do I know. I just know a lot of people are going to end up paying a lot more for items on the shelves, particularly in the USA.

I'm never the optimist, but they were saying on the news the market as a whole is back to January levels. I've just spent the morning updating the finances and up slightly on November. I appreciate everyone will have their own stock portfolio diversity and ratio of cash to shares etc. so depending upon exposures that figure will differ.

But those of us that remember Black Monday, the market fell 22%. That would be the equivalent today of the FTSE falling nearly 2000 points. We are not there...... yet

Given Carnival is I believe Panama incorporated. Does the impact of a 10% tariff on goods and services sold into the USA from Panama mean US citizens will now see a 10% tariff on booking prices?

I disembarked the day this voyage started. My boarding was also delayed from a previous outbreak on her and was operating under enhanced controls. Guess they didn't manage to resolve it. I've not had much luck with Cunard recently!

I've been in cabins when they do evacuation drills and the staff do enter all the rooms and put a colour coded door sign on to say checked.

I guess that works well in an orderly evacuation. Not sure how well it would work if there's a major situation (eg Costa Concordia). But I'd say it's a fair bet anyone with poor hearing would know if the ship starts tilting to get up and out pdq if they were having a nap.

Has a rough night on her last night, 4am announcement in cabin from bridge into bedrooms. Multiple fire detectors alerting above engine room. Captain later clarified false alarm.

Then another emergency bridge announcement into rooms at 6.45am. Fire on deck 10. Turned out to be smoke behind a dishwasher.

First time on victoria. Can't say I'm impressed. Guess her age is showing.

Interesting Topo. I'm on QV on Sunday. I wouldn't necessarily assume ship full always means high profits thigh. They were reducing balcony cabins on the the next two QV sailings to just £50 a night to fill the ship.

Not just America based cruises, Europe and Asia too. However not possible to do for P&O.

They sometimes have better deals 😉

I did say here the other day it's a tool that he could impose on cruise companies serving non US alcohol whilst sailing in American waters. Maybe he is a CCL shareholder and reads these boards. Anyone seen him in the buffet? 😆

I'm currently on Queen Mary and have been very impressed with their norovirus controls. Boarding was delayed 2 hours for more intensive cleaning and only now, after 72 hours, have we been allowed to self serve in the buffet. Mind you, customers seem very compliant with hand washing... noticeably better than the couple of times I've been on Iona!
