As Dave says it really does depend on the offer price. If it's £1.50+ the BoD will be under a huge amount of pressure from the major SH to accept. If its a low ball one (below £1) then they'll reject without hesitation. This is why it does seem like Sidara have offered a decent price or at least alluded to one and there hasn't been a RNS informing us of a rejection.

I think we'd all prefer a deal to be announced before the extension date but if an extension is agreed it's no big deal. Extensions are usually granted at the request of the BoD of the target company because talks are constructive and they believe a deal can be struck.

I'm not too sure about that. If the takeover fails to materialise the SP will fall significantly and reduce their investment. If theyre looking at long term, while it seems WG will be FCF positive next year, there's no guarantee of this. Just look at what happened to the Q4 2024 forecast. If the takeover is agreed even at the lower end of SP estimates they'll pretty much double their investment.

It's a win-win for PIs to see Blackrock investing heavily in WG. Perhaps some are unfamiliar with just how big they are. The value of their assets number in the trilions (over 11 trillion as of Jan 2025). That's not to say they can't be wrong but as a PI I find it comforting we're both betting on the same side.

I wouldn't say disappointing. Pretty much as we were last week. In fact as we haven't had any bad news regarding the takeover and another week has passed the chances of a successful conclusion has increased.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's been the driving force behind Sidaras repeated takeover approaches.

Knowing the Arab mentality and their penchant for ownership and control i can't see a merger taking place. It will be a full takeover or nothing IMO.

I'd forgotten about Sibir energy. I can't remember the exact numbers but I think the share price was about £1.60 and it ended up being bought out by a Russian energy company for about £5 if I remember. Goes to show the share price can't always be relied upon for a takeover valuation.

Many others including myself have said the same thing. The closer we get to deadline day without any news being announced the more chance there is of some type of agreement. If we get to deadline day and and extension is announced then the chances of an agreement becomes even more certain.
