What a great buy in opportunity as discussed several weeks ago ! Just hit buy to my max limit, worth more than the house now ! This company is so undervalued by any stretch and valuation metric ! 7 million people in Ireland before 2050 ! Anyone in for the long run is laughing , everything else is just noise

Yep , FT wrote great article on this and the cost to companies of buy backs ( commission to brokers is incredible ). Having said that it possibly helps that Davy get some of that anyway ! Great set of results ! Onwards !!! And let’s hope ECB hold still til year end on rates

Was the 2023 a 17% ROE for BOI -just see that so hard to see it dropping to 12 in the very near term ? Open to correction just looking back on last years results

Hi all - just curious as to what other shares people in this chat have and feel strongly about - I am a big fan of BOI - last 4 years I’ve held on to watch a very significant move from 3 euro to where we are now - Only two major banks left in Ireland with a growing population of almost 5Million now and soon to be 6 or 7 ( at least within my lifetime - Birg can only go up I feel but I will have to trade down soon as its becoming a very large part of my portfolio now ) not risk averse but also prudent

I also love FBD - Irish share with a great record and with growing global buy outs of insurance companies feel its only a matter of time - think its really undervalued at 12.80 - should be closer to 17 - with profits of 80 million annually \

Love Smurfit too - not so sure now its a global no.1 but it has served me well through the lockdowns and cardboard is one of the really decent green economy plays - should carry on growing if online buying stays at these elevated levels

My only other decent share by value/volume is Tesco -UK but run by an Irish lad. :-). Love that share - so that’s me -

Wells Fargo the worst performing bank in the USA still with a PE of 13-1 Boi still at a historically low 7-1 based on last years numbers ! I can’t believe this bank is not worth 12-1 which would be closer to its long term average and with record profits to be released soon ! Still value to be had here

Aib still trading at a lower PE and government holding still holding it back . When birg let lose on July 31 prepare for a new 9-10 PE ratio and a valuation up 15-20% from where it is now ! And still the underlying external market conditions are very favourable - 80 billion cash deposits not earning any interest for their owners etc etc . This share is going to fly if trump gets in and USA lowers rates faster than currently expected

Would 900m pbt not imply a special div of about 0.60 cent rather than more buy backs ? Could be great for us longer term holders rather than worrying about daily fluctuations around 10 euro ! If it drops below 9 again I for one would be back in like a shot

Just on the impairment issue . Let’s say it hits 300 million ! Surely not an issue for a bank that retained 800 million profits last year ! they made 24 million just parking those funds overnight at the ecb ! Well that aged badly ! The news coming out of USA banks today is record making profits and sustained high interest rates with a lower than expected guidance towards rate decreases this year ( inflation is still sticky because the Government are spending too much ) this is almost exactly repeated here ! I expected BIRG to announce record profits of over 1.2 billion for first six months in an unchanging interest rate environment! 11 euro to be reached by September

The euros / Wimbledon / golf on tv next week ! Going to be a boost on alcohol sales 💪 this share is going up

I’d think it wise to keep the dividend at a rate that still leaves room for a downturn in interest rates ( and bank income ) so they don’t have to decrease dividend in the future , just stop the buybacks . Irish households have currently 160 billion euro now in bank savings with over 60% of that in overnight demand ( earning no money ) the two largest banks making a fortune on this money and unlikely to change ! This is a great buy

You have not made a loss ! Yet ! If you hold them there will be no loss ! Losses only happen if you sell - don’t sell - there is serious momentum in dividends and price ! I’ve read all your threads , you were very unlucky when you purchased and it has been a sobering ride , but on the flip side it possibly stopped you making bigger gambles !

Very unlucky Hop but with the dividends of this year and last if you hold out another short while you will be cash positive . Feb 2014 was about the worst time to buy ( isn’t it always ) as it dropped like a stone soon after . But the fundamentals are clear higher for longer interest rates benefit this stock greatly . Next two years the 1.20 dividend ( and there is likely to be another 29-30 cent distribution in August this year ) plus it looks like those 1.5 to 2 billion profiles hold through 2026 when the tightening cycle finally takes the gloss off ! Hold on

This week will tell a lot . Jerome Powell will indicate higher for longer as will ECB , and then we are still on for another 2 billion profit ( and at least another 60 cent in 2025 dividend ) plus another 500m buyback ! And higher for longer would indicate it will be 3-4 years before we see real discounts to interest rates ! This is a strong buy for me !

The dividend is essentially higher. They are reducing the number of shares by about million shares ( 4.5% of shares in free float ) and then paying 4 % dividend . This share is incredibly undervalued - I have no idea how it is not shifting higher under this CEO

Or at todays price -8.30 less 60 cent dividend this year ( and almost certain minimum same next year - as that is guidance for 2024 ) so that’s 7.10 less 6-10% share buyback ! That we will have a company making 2 billion at a PE of about 3-1. !! Insane but true

I’m with you on this , European and USA central banks likely to be slower than the market thought and when they do move it will be likely slower than expected ! This share is an easy buy at these prices , albeit a long buy . Buy for the 7% dividend ! It’s going to be making these profits in Ireland for next 10 to 15 years

Ok ! So somebody please explain to me how a company with 1.9 billion in profits and distribution of 1.15 billion is only worth 8 billion . Guiding 1.9 billion again this year ! In the real world this company is worth 12 euro a share minimum ! There is no domestic or international competitor and its market share is growing
