I think this is HUGE news for AVA6000 and, of course the whole Pre/cision platform. A giant leap in the world of oncology.
Doxorubicin was approved by the FDA in 1974, and recognition of its cardiotoxicity, leading to the established lifetime cumulative dose limit of 550 mg/m² (often 450 mg/m² in patients with risk factors), began shortly after its introduction.
Key details regarding the establishment of these limits:
Initial Approval: FDA approval occurred in 1974, at which point studies began identifying dose-dependent cardiac damage.
Dose Limits: It is widely recommended that the cumulative total lifetime dose of doxorubicin should not exceed 450–550 mg/m² of body surface area.
Elderly/High-Risk Limits: For patients aged 70 or older, or those with previous mediastinal radiation, the recommendation is typically restricted to a maximum of 450 mg/m².
Refinement: Research into the risk of cardiomyopathy continued throughout the 1980s, with studies (e.g., JAMA, 1973–1984 data) further validating these dose restrictions.
