Hi , we had both (cattle & crops) , also sheep , horses , hops , cherries , plumbs , pears , apples etc , large mixed farms , we also had our own house cow (we were not dairy) , i remember my mother making her own butter , there is a grazing order when you have mixed stock as i recall. Although we were modernly equiped , one of my grandfathers kept 3 Shires (horses) , so the old wagoner would have a job untill retirement , i remember when young ridding on the back of one (bareback of course) my legs were out staight accross its back , they are very broad.-------- My other grandfather used to keep hunters & ponnies , which we used ride bareback (just a bridle). ------ here is an oldie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMQc8HthUFE BW Wraith

Yes , he was very brave & very modest , i knew him for ten Years before knowing he was highly decorated , only then at the prompting of his wife one XMAS , to show his grandchildren his medals & his old flying kit did he reluctantly agree to do so , and in doing so commented - "So Many Good Men Died"- i was amazed to see he had an invitation to meet "The King" with the English "DFC". - he had American also with citation. --- BW Wraith
