The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
demon - thanks, I received similar having emailed them yesterday. So the experts at finnCap had a target price last Oct of 28p when the sp was around mid 20s. They got that all wrong too then didn't they! And then to reiterate it this week having made no adjustment for anything which has happened since then or that is in the pipeline (it is a target after all, so by definition should be forward looking, taking into account all of the company's prospects) is on a spectrum of lazy to incompetent.
hopefully that episode is now behind us and the lows touched earlier today will prove to be the springboard to higher highs.
think CF has had a word?
barwickman - thanks for sharing. that's a well written and article (though re spin-offs she focussed on Orph Pharma and DIM - as we know there are at least 2 more biggies on top of that). I like and very much agree with 'With more activity than ever planned for the next year, soaring global interest in the company’s studies, and new contracts coming in thick and fast, that price could well climb higher.' GLA
Bronx - I agree with you. CF believes the co is worth a lot more, so do investors, all the evidence is pointing towards solid and significant progress on all fronts. The in-house broker is ours so should be on our side (i.e. the company's and investors) and should give an honest view which is also aligned with the very positive views publicly expressed by CF and others in the company.
Bazzaman - well you probably weren't expecting today's RNS either? anything can happen at any time with ORPH!
paolo - I completely disagree. the work which has gone to Porton Down has a very broad scope including a wide range of vaccine assessment activities, many of which have little to do with what ORPH does. ORPH has a much more focussed and specialised offering around human challenge trials, and is being contracted directly by government where these are required.
On the face of it sp action disappointing this morning. But on reflection if a few weaker holders (no criticism i.e. just not in it for longer term) want to sell now that's fine. They're getting snapped up around this level which means healthy consolidation and holders (old and new hopefully) with a new baseline to build from.
Meanwhile the RNS today is excellent in itself and also an indication that the core business is powering along whilst at the same time we know progress also being made on the spin-offs.
Must admit I'm still hoping that a bit of cash will be released for distribution by special dividend once the reduction of capital and distribution in specie are approved. I seem to remember CF saying some time ago that this may be possible. Of course ORPH may now / soon be generating so much cash from the core businesses that it can afford to do this anyway!
think we need CF to do a quick interview ...
there seem to be 2 different £3m items around this morning, or am I getting confused?! the Times article is something we all already know about, but nice to get mainstream coverage today. Today's RNS is new and additional, and surely the stepping stone to even more / greater things as TrekMadone suggests?Very nice way to start the week. GLA
Speak for yourself. You couldn't be invested in a more exciting company with better prospects than ORPH in any sector at the moment.
agree we could do without the company tweets. but why do you think sp will take a hit on monday - nothing's changed and as you say sp barely moved on friday anyway despite the rampy tweeting.
UK govt decline to contract with AVCT so we sell everything we can make elsewhere, and it gets into public domain that UK govt has declined to buy UK invented and made, best in class test, so other countries getting the benefit. Surely this would be 1 scandal too many?
Imbtfol - I think CF will want to minimise any cash OO puts into the spin-offs. Again, that's the point, to get other investors in to fund those businesses and drive them forward without being a drain on core OO. And what do you mean 'at a substantial discount'? To what - they have no value yet. Once they are funded that will be their value. If you think that's a discount to their true value i.e. because they have great prospects (which I believe each will have) then they are a great investment proposition.
Imbtfol - 'strapped for cash'? who says? I expect as part of the launch it will seek investment (we just get our share for nothing) which will be sufficient for its development plans. That's the whole point isn't it?
whimax - i don't think we know yet, that should be part of what is announced in due course, possibly at the meeting today
do we think we'll just get the result of the vote today or more inf e.g. details of other investors, financing, timetable etc etc?
it's been unusually quiet from CF / the company for a little while now, makes me think big things are in preparation ...
nice mention on BBC - thoughtful young guy

nowleft - that's not how I read it. it's a pretty superficial article anyway (and I'm very dubious about motley fool full stop). but if you take it at face value, earlier in the article he says 'Over the last year, the Open Orphan share price has rocketed by 429%. As an Open Orphan shareholder, I am delighted. But, I am not going to cash in just yet. I think there are further price rises to come.' i.e. he's expecting sp to go up, not down.
Towards the end of the article he says of the 1st spin-off 'I want the Open Orphan shares, but I don’t want the shares in the developmental asset company. It looks like I will have to wait for up to nine months before I can sell those unwanted shares.'
My reading is he doesn't want them because he doesn't want to be tied in to the new shares for 9 months. Who knows why!
I'll have his if he doesn't want them!
whistler - haha, very amusing, but its a serious question. FFB thinks Coll is deliberately torpedoing the sp, which I can't understand since I believe he holds over 850k shares.
FFB - what do you think 'Colls upto'?
