In short - someone is buying most likely using the equity futures market ( trading on margin) with a view to a rising SP. 100 shares happens to be the number of shares in one "lot" of an equity future, therefore I would hazard that someone probably put in an order limit for x number of lots on Opay at a fixed strike of say £3.30+ for delivery at a future date and this is the broker putting the hedge on as they write each lot and fill them for the set price of £3.30. The orders are probably auto-filled by a computer algorithm

@GS - Indeed - in a sea of red in wider market so very comfortable with support levels being shown - as we know OPAY SP can spike when you least expect it -and you need to be in to win - as you say hold fast and if ii's want it they will need to pay up - thankfully we will be shot of the "aim game" soon enough with plenty of positive news flow to come - so patience should be rewarded hopefully with another 20-30% on moving to FTSE and more thereafter from trading update.

with the US softening its stance on Iran and now past congress this looks overdone - even if there proves to be a violation it is more likely they will get a wrap on the knuckles - US will need banks that have existing relationships if it is to rebuild trade relations.

OPAY sells the shovels - a great place to be in the "electronic payments gold rush. More sign up with the likes of Emergent Payments will come - sales will continue to grow as will profits ! The great thing is we can sell shovels to all comers. That is starting to be realised and I expect we will see SP rise steadily to new heights - key dates in calendar are : * EGM * Approval to move to main market * FTSE250 entry * Trading update in November Early 2016 could be very interesting in M&A space....if not before

I think we all know opay is massively undervalued in a consolidating sector. We would all like to see Opay hit its potential sp , a speculative bid at these levels is just getting OPAY way too cheap based on any metric.... patience will see us rewarded ...gla

@GS - I think you hit the nail on the head !! smells like a band of ii brothers operating below radar Follow the breadcrumbs................. Excluding Kames - Not one RNS on holdings - yet 150mn shares traded hands in last month alone - that is a lot of private investor activity for aim. SUSPECT. More so when you strip out existing known 50% ii holdings that is 65% of the freefloat - buys we have seen of 10/20 mn shares are not by private investors. re thresholds for disclosure - seemingly loop holes exist and can be exploited when it suits - http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/a458f5da-70a4-11e4-9129-00144feabdc0.html#slide0 what can be done for shorts probably applies the same for stake building.

GS - exactly, since PayPal has spun out the market has moved to a "land grab" as others try to close the gap on the 800lb gorilla. My guess is that the analysts at the brokers are behind the curve in their valuation models given how fast this sector has moved in the last qtr and are probably also waiting guidance from OPAY of the synergies etc.... roll on Investor day in Nov - we should start to see re-ratings once consolidated picture is clear. The knock on effect is that this could be the catalyst for a bid early in the new year - as potential of enlarged Paysafe becomes clearer - the combined group is 10% of PAYPAL then we can expect a valuation of near to £3bn or the 500-600p you calculated ( allowing for bid premium over market of say 25%)

@techni - many thanks for sharing the thought process - I monitor it also but slightly differently, I use it as a range to monitor "carry trade" : below 110 bear market - above 135 frothy market and adjust bands for changes in underlying IR policy by central banks. Hence why I have viewed current market as a correction rather than a sell off as we saw in 2007/8 reversal of the carry trade.

@techni - I get the 25 level for bull bear and VIX looking good at moment to fall below the bear line USD/JPY - below 122 ? hardly been above 122 in past 15 years for any sustained period - did you mean above 122 is bear signal ?

looks like we have new support level at 300p, shorts reducing, argues well into positive news in last qtr. In background Worldpay acquisition by wirecard/ PE firms - will the unsuccessful bidder go shopping ?

IMHO - correction looks to be bottoming out - VIX stands at just over half the levels hit on 24th August when Dow hit year low indicating less "fear factor" - similar pattern to 2010 and 2011 market corrections - should give a wider positive market in to last qtr coinciding nicely with OPAYS/PAYS positive news items

I see what you are doing there GS - v clever :) PAYSAFE - safe payments will trump optimising payments in the growing electronic market - good Ronseal name - all fits with JL " de-risking" comments and all argues well for the future sp and erosion of the discount to peers. Cleverly sets up more direct comparisons to PAYPAL in future - by default tickers will sit v close to one another.

With sector consolidation happening quite aggressively, what are the views that an approach could be made prior to the move to main market - I am of the view that the qtrly trading update and potential re-rating by brokers could be key dates in that regard.

Micheboo - not trying to be a smart ars* here but I think you need to reassess the weight you are giving to stamp duty in your decision making. The SP is likely to react immediately once any announcement is made - for arguments sake lets say SP increases by +10% as soon as RNS is published ( pre notification of move or just immediate confirmation of move) - that is 20 times the stamp duty of 0.5% - so perhaps you should focus your trade timing to capture that uplift rather than the 0.5% stamp duty avoidance alone - unless of course your focus is only to invest known on certainty but you might well find you are buying at a much higher SP.
