In my view, we certainly are not fortunate to be adrift - we are isolated, to a point, and Trump loves that.

Never say 'never' we can and should retrace and rejoin. Robert Reich is a well-regarded American professor, author, lawyer, and political analyst. He is known for his contributions during the administrations of Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter and served as the Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1997. Additionally, he was part of President Barack Obama's economic transition advisory board. Reich is a credible and experienced voice. It’s fascinating to hear his perspective on how other nations, especially in Europe, should respond to U.S. tariffs. He clearly believes that a cautious, wait-and-see approach isn’t the best strategy when dealing with an egotistical leader like Trump. Even if we somehow manage to strike a deal with the U.S., we’re probably going to pay a steep price. And, of course, we’ll all have to wear suits and chant:

I suppose we’ll have to agree to disagree—it’s really just a matter of perspective. Immigration was another issue pushed by fearmongers. However, you can’t deny that they promised a variety of trade deals with countries around the world. Many impressionable voters couldn’t distinguish between illegal immigrants from outside the EU, often focusing on a narrow view of race. In my opinion, Brexit was a massive mistake, and now the repercussions are clear for everyone to see.

Tariffs will likely dip the whole market today, until Trump changes his mind again. The world can't operate under Trump. He's bad news for everyone.

I wonder if the defence sector will be an exception as the world gets evermore dangerous?

Even if britain, starmer, or whoever, manages to circumnavigate tariffs through licking trump's backside, it won't end well - yanks have high prices for quasi friendships. Subservience to the u.s. is not the sovereignty 'leavers' thought they were buying into!
