RE: Reaction to tariffs3 Apr 2025 18:07
In my view, we certainly are not fortunate to be adrift - we are isolated, to a point, and Trump loves that.
Never say 'never' we can and should retrace and rejoin. Robert Reich is a well-regarded American professor, author, lawyer, and political analyst. He is known for his contributions during the administrations of Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter and served as the Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1997. Additionally, he was part of President Barack Obama's economic transition advisory board. Reich is a credible and experienced voice. It’s fascinating to hear his perspective on how other nations, especially in Europe, should respond to U.S. tariffs. He clearly believes that a cautious, wait-and-see approach isn’t the best strategy when dealing with an egotistical leader like Trump. In this evening's PM programme on BBC Radio4 you can listen to what he has to say, in conversation with Evan Davies (it's quite away in - but do listen to the whole of it): I will post the link when it becomes available.
