The U.S fears and economic European powerhouse that it can't manipulate. Putin fears a European military force. Both want Europe fragmented. Trump's push for higher NATO spending has an ulterior motive. He appears to be creating the groundwork for a possible exit from NATO in the future, having made threats to leave multiple times and showing a tendency to align with Russian perspectives. He is not a true ally, and the idea of a 'special relationship' is misguided.

IMO, He wants Europe fragmented so he can manipulate it. He fully backed Brexit because both he and Putin fear a united European Union that neither of them can control.

It appears that the UK and some other European countries are prepared to take this route. The US continues to be firmly established in the practice of economic suppression, similar to how ancient Roman enclaves were managed within their empire (and former British empire). The main question is whether this apparent submission by our government will result in any advantages for being compliant? It will be interesting to see if they cut us any slack on pharmaceuticals.

If we needed a deterant other than submarines the UK's F-35B could be outfitted to carry nuclear weapons, specifically the UK's Trident missile system, while the French Rafale fighter jet is also capable of carrying nuclear weapons, including the ASMP-A missile. France has its own independent nuclear deterrent. The UK could have adopted France's independent model or purchased from them.

Considering that we need U.S. permission to use what we buy from them, you can see we are, since Brexit, becoming ever .or subservient to Uncle Sam.

The UK is purchasing F-35 fighter jets from the U.S. that can carry nuclear weapons. While this, arguably, is essential it seems to me that our choice of supplier is aimed at protecting the UK from potential U.S. pipeline tariffs. The pharmaceutical matter remains unresolved, raising the question of whether all this appeasement will be worthwhile. We wait!
