Will be interesting to see where the Share Price opens. A whole weekend to digest the latest rumours and which way will the city turn. Will the ramping hysteria finally pay off or will the miserable shorters finally sling their hooks.

I was right of course. If she had had to retire through ill health in 2020 then the SP today would be more like £1.50

ITVX is not all that. It is fifth in the UK. Not sure why Nigeco left out the BBC iPlayer which dominates UK streaming. Even Netflix and Disney cannot get close to iPlayer. So the state owned broadcaster does much of what ITV does only better. The other players are moving in on what was ITV's advertising revenue. The only thing ITV has left is to make content for other platforms and try to generate revenue there.

ITV needs to go the way of Thames and Fremantle and focus on studio side and ditch the free to air. Fremantle is worth more than ITV and makes content for international markets rather than UK.

And there you have it. Public service broadcaster, they will be mandated to carry ITN news regardless of ownership. MPs and Parliament will want to scrutinise anyone who takes on 40% ownership (potentially they will be forced to sell that stake) but they will still worry about the influence that the new owners will have over ITN and journalism.

A bid from the vast majority of potential suitors touted on this board is never going to make it past Parliament. ITN plays a huge part in forming British political opinion and quite rightly is heavily monitored and forced to remain politically neutral.

It seems that ITV think the ITN content is ITV owned......

ITN is 40% owned by ITV. Daily Mail own 20%, Thomson own 20%, Informa own 20%.

So it is very much like a studio that can claim to be separate from ITV but comes under the ITV studios grouping.

So if ITV is sold one of the stipulations of the sale will be that the new owner has to continue to air ITN news but has no editorial control or influence over it. Yes American bidders will like that state intervention in their aquisition.

Apple has never bought a broadcasting company. Amazon are not going to get the approval of Parliament because of their poor workers rights and their own need to control the business.

So the only bidders are Kim Jung Un and the Ayatollahs......

How about the downside to sporting events. The years where they are absent and ITV revenues for the quarter look to be 5-10% below the previous year and it spooks some of the casual watchers of the Share Price? You guys never mention that......

There is no way the government will not want to scrutinise and potentially block US bidders. The standard of journalism is high and there is no way they want it to slip to Youtube style political diatribes.

Anyway I read on the other place that the North Korean Iranian bid for ITV is back on and from 2025 we can expect hour long broadcasts of the great leader Kim Wrong Un extolling the virtues of the Juche and Iranian revolutionary guard telling us America is evil. Anyone can bid for ITV accorrding to the boards biggest rampers.....

Royal Mail bid came under great scrutiny. Questions were asked. Objections were raised and the Czech owner gave assurances and after a long process was approved. Microsoft struggled to buy out Activision.

All the time we are told newspaper owners are questionable. That the Murdochs are not fit to own UK media outlets. Sky news is banned from using Fox news.

So Solley who is at an age where dementia is a real risk is questioning if the State would just sit back and twiddle their fingers as ITN news gets sold as part of a US bid for ITV. As a company with questionable work practices and labour rights is allowed to move in on the creative industry and all that might mean for contracts, rights and safeguarding within the TV industry.

They have outsourced much of the BBC production to independent studios. Nice jobs with lots of protection and care for employees. You would imagine that Amazon would want to take on those studios, maintain that level of employee reward and perks and not make cuts.....

Pogos gang masters are going to be unhappy that their no.1 potato sorter is taking time away from the conveyor belt to post garbage about an Amazon takeover of ITV. Pogo if you had bothered to learn anything about the UK TV industry you would understand that no big US company is going to get a look in on a heavily regulated and protected industry. Public service Broadcasting and much of the BBC that has been privatised and sent out to external bids is now done by ITV. OFCOM, Monopolies and Mergers. I think any bid for ITV and ITN news thrown in would go before Parliament. No US company will want that level of government control.

ITV is quasi state controlled. Any bid will struggle to go through.

Look at the lift in share price when buybacks were announced. Once you remove the stimulus are you still going to have that 20% upside in ITV share price? Pogo you mention 8% of shares were removed. Does that really equate to a 70p+ Share Price or can we expect a fall? I do not have the answer and am open to debate the downside or possible long term legacy of the removal of 8% of shares. The great pontificator prefers not to debate and instead chooses to lecture us all about how he is 100% certain of what will happen in 2025.

Nige I remember you and Solley telling us that Britbox was going to be a world beater. It would generate billions and that the Dame was a genius. Now you are over the moon that the proceeds from it sale are being used to keep the do Nothing Dame earning £3million a year and not being used to aquire other studios and secure future revenue creation.

We need an end of year awards. Pogo was up for "poster most likely to lose all his life savings" but I think the last minute return of Nigeco has given him stiff competition.

Pogo was sitting quietly but he has gone full rage again this morning. Buybacks are not doing what he hopes for and that is the same across multiple UK listed companies. BP are doing buybacks and the vast majority of investors would prefer they are cancelled and the money is used to pay off debt.

Janus is back which is never a good sign. The Boards pseudo psychoanalyst always turns up when the board is full on bickering. He likes to stir the pot. I just remember my time at Bedlam (the Royal Bethlem). I would walk onto wards as part of a project and would be immediately met by 3-4 patients who would all claim to be doctors/ qualified psychiatrists. Janus is one of these.
