So Stephen Sackur was on Radio 4 the Media Show today. He admitted the cutting of HARDtalk is still pretty raw. The BBC has to make savings from its news output and HARDtalk will be a single digit percentage saving.

It was an informative listen. The show has a global outreach. Watched around the world and seen as unique as BBC journalists can put politicians and leaders on the spot in ways their local journalists cannot.

Sackur said they had had HARDtalk up on youtube but that the bosses at BBC had pulled it and told them to limit it only to their platforms.

So maybe with a visionary CEO ITV could step up. Take on this role of international journalism. Free from bias. Encourage the BBC journalists and talent over but rather than limiting it to ITVX they could try putting it up on Youtube and monetarising the shows that way.

It seems a real loss to be losing quality journalism. It needs the private sector to find ways to make money whislt remaining politically impartial. Just not sure the Dame is the one with the energy to create a new news outlet whilst others are closing.
