I won't go down that road of politics suffice to say that Yugoslavia was formerly known as Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia controlled by a dictator much the same as Stalin's Sovier Union and the system in most of these East European countries was riven with corruption, the legacy of which continues today. Perhaps ex-'Soviet' style may be a better way of describing their background and they all have the same common thread running through them. Corrupt bureaucracy.

You've summed it up well Seadoc - cashburn on horizontals will soon deplete the little money left in the kitty hence the need for a cash call but the continuing stabilised production figures are very encouraging and a good sign that all is well with the Portland HH-1. But it is only the one. More cash more wells more cash but huge amoujnt of investment needed and let's hope there are 'other' sources with deep pockets to finance this exciting future. IMO we'll get the cash needed one way or the other especially now that the stable production is proving the viability of the field(s).

The reason is that these production figures were in line with expectations and the 'elephant in the room'. As long as the politicos continue to f****p the UK economy confidence in investing will continue to drain away.

IMO the very basics of a country run by bureaucrats of the Soviet era are still powerful enough to harness the simmering discontent of a 'western' power coming into their country and exploiting their natural resources. I think the fracking aspect is just a red herring and if the development was a purely Slovenian owned enterprise they wouldn't have cared less about fracking. If they were able, which they are not, to nationalise Ascent with little if any compensation they would do that tomorrow. I just am very grateful that they are in the EU subject to EU law.

It wasn't so very long ago when Labour Governments in the UK were intent on nationalising the North Sea oil industry with minimal compensation and I see this permit delay as a manifestation of the gut feeling of an 'out of touch' bureaucracy led by 'populist' politicians of not wanting foreign companies 'pinching' their gas'.

Despite my misgivings in this aspect of the early days of investing in AST I really believed that this 'old school' way of thinking was dead and buried but I am wrong and wish that I had never got involved. I shall hang on because no matter what things can't get a lot worse.
