Listening to Cliff Holloway on the Proactive video, it feels like many of us (myself included, to a degree) having been hyping the significance of CRUK more than we should have perhaps...as he says (paraphrased) "...Would have been a nice to have" "...Would have had something to gain but we haven't lost anything" etc etc. Plus the funding would have been spread out even more thinly than many of us envisaged perhaps?

And:

"...Our objective now is to comm and work with those other collaboration partners of part project blueprint see if we can up with another way to meet that challenge - as you know collaborations come in all shapes and sizes - there are a number of ways to approach the challenge that CRUK have set out"

I'm thinking that maybe not being selected is a bit of a blessing in disguise?

Thanks Inananco/Wigwammer, I see where you are coming from now, I take back what I said about (me) querying the purpose of todays RNS. Like you say, it is still very significant news.
Also in some weird way I think it's good to get CRUK out of the way IMO.

...anyway back to some sensible conversation, allthough a little disappointed, I personally I'm not surprised RE the CRUK, I did mention that perhaps the Scancell led project had too many stars/big names with big financial backing behind them already, and as others have more succinctly put perhaps Project Blueprint was too far advanced/too commercially driven and less pure research unlike the other projects?

Either way, winning was always a "bonus", a nice to have, particularly with the current market capital/share price, but as I've also said before, I believe £20m is actually small fry in the context of Scancells worth, but also in terms of what BioNtech/Genentech could cough up when they finally dip into their pockets...IMO.

For me the big significant news was Mondays RNS with the new appointments, IMO that indicates more news is coming soon.

RE Proactives Andrew Scott's comments, is he implying that there will be a interview with Scancell tomorrow? If so that seems very interesting IMO, and perhaps an RNS tomorrow too?
And yes Mondays RNS indicates it's all systems go...CRUK award or no CRUK award.

No worries C7, I think the point I was trying to get is that, if Loxo's pipeline is worth $8billion, what is Scancells pipeline worth in comparison? (I appreciate that Loxo may(?) have different cancer targets)

We must not forget that awards comittees do like to give their backing to the outsider.

Not had a look into the other contenders in detail but I'm sure all of them are very worthy and doing great work and shouldn't be dispariged (not that im accussing anyone of that btw)

Correct me if im wrong but I get the impression that the Scancell led team is a bit like a premier league team with very big (wealthy) names behind whilst the other teams are not so inclined? So the prize would mean even more to one of the smaller teams? A bit like Leicester winning the Premiership!

Anyway my point is it should not be assumed the Grand Challenge is a forgone conclusion, and it wouldn't be the end of the world if another team got it...All IMO. We also don't know how many "winners" there are going to be yet either.

But either way whatever the result is, the week commnencing 23rd and the following few weeks are going to be very very interesting for Scancell IMO.
