RE: Wales infection rates17 Dec 2020 09:05
It's tricky. Wales gets all lumped together as one, but there is a large diversity. The higher infection rates seem to be the more populous areas. Swansea, Cardiff, the valleys and Port Talbot. I'm in Pembrokeshire and we haven't been hit too hard being very rural and more sparsely populated.
Still, not easy though - early on I closed down my holiday let (my source of income) as I couldn't imagine my feelings if I had a visitor who transmitted covid to our small village! Lots of older and at risk people near me.
The farmers are worried, many are run by small family units of two or three people (and, boy, do they work hard too), so if they get hit there is a massive problem over feeding / milking / managing their livestock.
On the flip side, we all feel lucky to be living through this in the pen countryside. Being able to get out in the fresh air, walk the woods, collect mushrooms etc. is a blessing. I can't imagine how it feels to be trying to bring up a small family in a 3 bed flat in Walthamstow in these times.
