G - forgot to say... I now found selling part of a holding, in tranches, works for me now ( was resistant before as additional costs, and I wanted ALL the shares above the highest buy price! ) so trading part and holding part of a holding seems a good compromise.
I do hold some OCDO from float that I can wait for £40 or tech company status on!!

S - HL has a fill or kill option = dealer will have one go on open and kill order off if not sucessful.

Morning all - G, T, S ( and O, L and C if hiding! ) - a bit like Sesame street!

Nice to see the board busy again especially with guidance, that's what got me to try trading.

G - T mentioned I favoured DGE - Diageo - that was partly as I had historical shares ( only a few hundred ) that were "free cash" now when I moved them to HL, as they were very volatile - over £1 a day movement. That was before the virus hit hard. Now they had a slump and are on a near straight line rise so spotting dips to get in on, and spikes to sell are harder... could just wait until they get back over £30 though ... but can't trade if cash tied up there!

What's my aim in trading? I moved money from savings as it was only getting under 1% ... and I set a simple target of more that 1%/year ... then 1% month. ( now best ISA is 0.25% and good savings rate reduced to 0.1% or 0.05% ! Bah!! ) Basically I want to increase the value of my "stake" and use excess profits on things I would like but would prefer not to spend my own saving/capital on!

I joined here just before the lockdown / market fall .. so the first few weeks I got an idea on the spikes and shakes ( Thanks T & S for the guidance and the 8+1 rules ) and made a few hundred quid a trade but had a few errors as I sold too early or bought too late .. and ended up in a loss position .... and did not really want to sell at a significant loss! Of course can hold for the inevitable rise later this year? but need to add new money if I want to trade. Tried a sell at a loss and trade back into profit, took a couple of weeks but did manage .. markets did not help!!

I expect I am using fewer shares that the old guard so make less per trade. 1000 shares gain £10 per penny rise in price. So 10,000 shares gain £100 per penny rise, and dealings costs are less of a % ( stamp duty up pro rate tho ).

At the moment these continual increases and record highs are making me nervous to buy in e.g. OCDO, DGE

Ideally I want to buy / sell daily with a reasonable profit.

Ideal goal would treat myself to a Tesla S Ludicrous by xmas.

Thanks S - sold a tranche made near 6% profit... and the remaining tranche are averaged down and can go when price moves up just a little bit more!

Looking at OCDO - bit scary buying in at near record highs ... but if good info from AGM may be worth a punt!

See CCL are up and down!

Saw CCL at 898, but as I am not familiar with this share's performance I watched ... was 1000 earlier... but that rise would have been a good deal!

I'll watch this from now on too...

That news on CCL has seen them jump and recover most of todays fall!

Buffet probably wanted to sell before announcing it to get a better price???

Sounds good advice about CCL .... apart from they are a cruse company don't know much about them. But you and S seem to have done OK with them so as I am out most elsewhere I may have a dabble as the price drops. Odd to see they were around £30 last may!!

morning S - Yes, watching MCRO pootle along - I bought in at 445 last week to bring average price down.

Looked at CCL as heard a lot about it on here but not bought in ... soon as I looked at it on Friday it dropped like the Titanic!!

Just watching OCDO and DGE... maybe this is the general price for a while, I'll consider jumping back in when it looks settled for a period and a bit of volatility arrives.

Tried to buy back into OCDO at 1580 on opening, couldn't get a buy, now it's got away from me!

Back in more MCRO on the low this morning, brings the overall price down a bit more

T - Yes, thanks, as I have bought and sold a couple of tranches at a profit and lower price than earlier shares, my cost average has come down so the highest share price MCRO shares I have can go for a profit shortly instead of back to where they were in Feb/. Remember the £10 a share !!

And of course MCRO now over 426!!

S - these were bought last week as the SP fell past 400 down to 350ish .. so were under 400 a bit, and I was watching the HL chart and stochastic intently for an hour ... nearly sold at 407 but for once held on and got near the top price of the day!

Stochastics were saying sell from around 13:00 hours ... as price kept increasing....
The cats moved to different beds now and is asleep on the settee!

Sold MCRO at 418, so around 5% profit ... getting better!

S - DGE hit the 2750 you prophesised yesterday.... shame we were both out by then ... glad you made a profit - didn't want you to lose out just to keep me company in that share!
It did what it has done many times - drop, steady for a few days, then quick rise .... and repeat.

MCRO on the way up so may sell next trance if it keeps going.

Will be interesting to see if prices fall back, or these levels will be the new base price for the trading range.

I'd expect most to rise after the lockdown ends but that's going to be a few weeks + yet I guess.

S - sold DGE at 2716 .. of course it's now 2725!!
So a 1% profit!!!

Having a watch and see where / what / when I buy back in ... OCDO riding high, MCRO quite flat...

S - Looks like DGE retraced ... profit takers on Friday likely. There has been a non exec director change...
