So that's why my cheeky limit buy on CCL ay 945 failed... good old traders / HL
Found this message from this afternoon!

"This is an email to serve as notification that your limit in CCL has been met but unfortunately, the price has moved back outside your limit before it was possible to deal."

Hmmm ohh well ... always tomorrow!

Since it got to 950 today I thought I'd try a cheeky price .... if I was watching I'd have panic'd and bought sooner at a higher price!
That's my theory on setting limit buy/sell ... go to the limit of my expectations ... and this last week I have missed a sale or buy by 1-2p 3 times!! So something works...

I'll be up tomorrow..... so expect a quiet day!

Annoyingly no.
I had gone out for an hour, set a buy on CCL at 945, and it hit 944 for a minute but didn't activate!!!! To be honest I would have missed that manually, but would have got in at 950 ish .... So are they going up or down in the morning?
Stocahsic chart DID show a buy just after 14:30 hours..... at the 945 mark!!

Ohh well,
Up early tomorrow perhaps and see what happens.

From my previous reply on prices, CCL rose and MCRO fell .. so not sold MCRO yet or bought CCL !!!

Thank you guys for your support and guidance, all gratefully received.

I seem to do a mix of styles - I am happy to wait a few days / weeks to get the price back up, and also happy to day trade if there is price movement. Tranches - got over my aversion of multiple fees, and that has worked well for me even though I still desire the big hit from all shares sold at once!

I am only trading a couple of shares, and looked at a few you guys mention - that's how I got into MCRO and CCL, not sure about ASOS, and can't fathom PLUS!!

Ocado I can understand, but didn't buy in on the rise from 1500 to 2100 ... am in now though.

Had a buy limit on CCL at 950, have been watching it potter about 995-1010 ... I'll be watching as it falls!

Looking to sell some MCRO at 449 just now, so some profit - not as much as the 470 I wanted for this tranche, but profit is profit! BUT stochastic nearly says BUY so expecting a price rise.... ??

I have looked back over CCL yesterday when you were both doing multiple trades even buying in higher, I get a better feel for that now, if you are sure it is continuing to increase.
That ties in with my reluctance to buy in on a rise as I worry it will fall ... and last couple of months the fall has been the new level ( MCRO and CCL in my case! ).

Bu t I have missed out on good rises just for that reason, like CCL this week ... so I guess I will review when I am happy yo buy in. I can always see what you guys are doing and consider it myself!!!

I'm still new at this so it's all learning, and I have not lost money overall so far!

Yeah I am up, was up earlier this morning but looked like I had missed the MCRO peak ( limit sell at 475 ... only reached 470 !! ) and missed CCL low ...

Learning point : GET UP!!!!!!!

When I had been on at open either nothing was happening in my portfolio, or I couldn't get a trade as it was busy! So usually come on after morning ablutions etc. or later if I have little holdings or price well away from what I want.
So I am losing 50% of the opportunities...

Generally the other half has been working from home and small part time in work ( school, looking after the kids of the key / at risk parents ) and I get in the way as PC's in same room ...and the cat gets upset when we both meander about as he thinks it time for the vets. Anyway, excuses over, I am going to change habits so I can be on here near opening...

Looks like you two are going to do well today.

Yes sold CCL at 940 .. could have got so much more if I waited, but it often falls before i sell so I press the trigger, or have a limit sell set.
You seemed busy with your sell @ 933, buy in @945, sell 977 ( goodo - profit ) buy @ 979, SOLD @ 975, buy @ 999. That's the sort of chain I cannot bring myself to do right now. Bring back the spike and shake!
Still don't like to buy in at higher price after I sold so soon and dislike selling at a loss!

It'll be fine...

Not bad, not too exciting... sold CCL too early when it kept bobbing around 940 ... profit but nicer to sell at 1000! As ever!
Waiting on MCRO .. too much holding for me there at different prices so need an upward movement.

Bought back into OCDO just now at low 1911 ... not got back into CCL - I'm still wary of buying in on a rise in case it falls back! That's how i negated some profit covering early losses - buying CCL at 1041 ... MCRO in the 800's ... thought it was just HL's way of showing gain/loss but working it out it was right.. so not as much profit as I thought even though some good sales looked like good profit.

Learning occurrences ehh!

T - didn't set alarm clock ... I don't like mornings! Limit sells set on CCL and MCRO, looking into alarm that will go to phone - via e-mail? - Sold CCL at 940.

S - yes, holding MCRO for now, watching and waiting for something over 450

If get MCRO sold today yes indeedy, wheels and tyres and maybe a door card - I fancy the gull wing doors!

I thought I had bought 2 wheels and a tyre last week, 2 wheels and 2 tyres this week.
Looks like my profit is tied up in current shares - losing shares like MCRO and a couple of shares I transfered to HL, - and recovered my early losses when i jumped / sold at wrong times ... so not up as much in cash as I thought! Until I sell the portfolio for any profit!!!
Could just be the way HL does the maths...

Anyway now i know a bit more what I am doing, reading up and researching a bit, I can see it is a way to beat the bank interest rates!!

T - when you refer to Bloomberg where are you watching it - I can only find specific programmes on Sky. I watch it on holiday in USA!

Missed CCL spike this morning ... so missed MCRO and CCL good profits this week!
Relied on limit sell's ( set to optimistically ) and not sat in front of the screen.... note to self watch more!

Still holding and hope for a rise back to 500/900 respectively!

Watching the last half hour... most of my portfolio went up a lot ... I saw my "losses" reduce by over a third ...

Lets hope the increase carries on Friday so we can do a bit!

Great chance to buy in cheap .... my bank has a technical problem and can't "add money" to my HL account to take advantage ( and also failed several standing orders too ! ) so probably cant buy until tomorrow.

And prices seem to be starting a recovery now after profit taking and panic selling!!

Wait on Friday and Monday for some sense!!
