T - may day trade it if it looks up and down ... don't want to miss the sudden rise!

S - Yep, nice SNG rise on the news! It's my biggest loser at the moment so may trade some on it's way back up. But don't to be out when it shoots up again!

Only 2 weeks ago the politicians and news pundits were strongly saying there may never be a vaccine, and even if there is it will be a year or more off!
How times change!!

The Oxford/AZN trial had to pause for 1 "bad outcome" which was never explained - was it a side effect or just some other issue? Not sure if Pfizer was the other trial to have a pause due to bad reaction? Also China's Sinovac vaccine trial halted in Brazil. And Johnson & Johnson ... J&J's late-stage COVID-19 vaccine trial halted after 'unexplained illness'.

Astra Zeneca used to be the pharma arm of ICI, then hived off late 1990's as Zeneca ( I worked at ICI then ) - ICI shares were £6, stayed around there, AZN were £6 ended up over £24 in a year or so, AND took all ICI debts with them!

I believe there is a critical number of vaccinations in the population to effectively depress (wipe out ) the virus, 70%+ I think.

Read that Pfizer getting criticised for releasing data early - not finished trial, not published findings, no peer review, no detail on who was in the trial - age, sex, race, location, medical history etc. which may affect the efficacy.
At 90% effective, 1 in 10 still potentially able to be infected!
Stories the vaccine does not work on children or the very elderly. Why?

News and business now backing off the imminent success and vaccination until further info approved!

Wouldn't the Pfizer CEO sale be classed as Insider Trading?

T, S - Didn't sell ASC this morning, ( would have been 4560 at open, 4600 a few mins later ) watched it fall to 4500 and regretted, then returned to near 4600 by 12:00.
Which is what it did yesterday as I said :
"Well, ASC went up £1 in first 1/2 hour, dropped most of that next hour, then ramped up all day from 11:00 ish. So hope for same tomorrow! ASC ended up at 4580. Hmmm fall on open, rise by 11:00 ??"
with slightly different timings!

So if I sold 100 shares at 4600 ( costing 4700 ) I would be £100 down; buy back 100 shares at 4500 I'd have 100 shares and now be straights; sell 100 shares at 4600 I'd be £100 up. And if the movement is not as large a drop or climb in one direction it skews the cash! No wonder I get it wrong sometime!! But that example does show me it works!! Even selling at a loss at first IF there is a reasonable ( predictable and fast ) range.

Of course in my example above, I would have 100 shares but at £2 less than original price so more scope to trade the spikes and shakes!

T - Didn't know Alibaba did dating ?? Not sure what their singles day was ( typo? ) aren't they the Japanese / Chinese massive e-commerce site? Didn't know ASOS were involved with them, or is it just by association in the same market?

S - Thanks re: GGP post, I only really started trading 'cos you peeps on the OCDO board pointed me in the right direction - S and T at least, before you moved us here as the Ocado residents got annoyed with the fun boys! People need support and a bit of guidance sometimes.
I am cash out in the share and fund account in ASC and GGP and SNG, so the smaller ISA I try and trade .. GGP a few times lately in the 20.5-23p range, but worth a few hundred quid a time!
My AIMs in the ISa are not doing well, UFO, 7Dig and SYME ... bought in at right time then placings, or no news, now retracing badly! Not a lot in there each so hope they pick up a bit, else have to wait!
Need to put in this years ISA allowance so have more to trade with there, instead of the tax liable Fund and Share account!

Now the quandry .. sell and hope for a fall at open ... or hold and hope for another £2 rise tomorrow!!

I often get greedy - it's still going up, wait and sell later! Then I miss the highs and don't sell, or sell for a lot less!

Same on buys, it's fallen, looks flat, BUY. Then it drops more!

Watching the price on the chart or watchlist certainly helps, and the fewer to watch the better!!
I fell off doing this after June .... same with the 8:00 starts...

Ohh well, back on the horse now!

T - Exactly, if I had just gone with it,lost! But watching it I can choose if/when to sell, and then follow the cheat sheet!
I have fallen foul of just looking at it and selling/buying especially when I was looking at 6+ shares!

One share is easier.

Interestingly, sold the GGP at just over 22.5, and by the time I got back to portfolio they had dropped to 22.25 and buy of 23 !! Lucky me!!

ASC still rising, stoch chart shows buy so I expect a bit more rise before the fall ...

T - fully understand, I think I was pointing out that if I had sold earlier at say 4450 based on LSE chart top, I would have both lost cash, AND not been able to buy more as they are now 4520 !! I know, wait for the close / open and buy at 4300 ish ... Don't mind doing that when I made money as I had on Monday( sold 4824, bought 4701 ), but not when I lose!

Only real trade today in my ISA with a small amount of GGP ... made 7,8% profit!

14:30 and ASC are at 4485, LSE chart shows top of 4525 and bottom of 4250.

Still holding, still over £2 a share down!!

GGP came up, then settled back a bit.... SNG around 100p, likely need news to move back up to around 200p...

R - I was watching the excitement on Monday, but had all cash tied up, and HL problems - got ASC at 4697 ish .. 30 mins before it 4100! So T - large loss to trade ASC at 4450 now, I know the theory and that was what I was doing last week / monday morning with ask, when I got myself spiked, increasing share number! I'll watch the movements and see ...

T - I had secure mailed HL twice on Monday, nothing back yet. Don't know how/if they could compensate, apart from a good ill gesture unless their system recorded a failed trade?

I'm fine, a bit distressed at the sudden change mainly as I had NO CONTROL!!! No live prices, different price back and forward ( not varying market prices, ASC 4533, 4106, 4533, 4106 etc. ) and dummy sells when I wanted a sell or buy ... no trade!

Frustrated.

I know it will come back, a bit of a waiting game I expect.
Holding onto GGP and SNG, too far down on ASC - bought a little before the big drop! to trade spikes and shakes ( £6/share down! ).

My problem was I am no longer in many shares so 50% drop on SNG, 15% drop on ASC and what, 10% on GGP hit most of my holdings!
They will rise like a nacho from the hot chilli dip!

I lost a Tesla, and the garage and the copper pipe from the house!!

ASC, SNG even GGP down, other small holdings not changed or down.
15-20% of my capital was in the back of the Tesla!
Actually now in a loss since I started.....

I shouldn't moan though, I expect some here are nursing bigger losses, although with a wider portfolio as mentioned earlier win some, lose some ..... covers the losses.

I consider this a market readjustment, start of back to normality ( ish ) and as said expecting a swap around this week.

Annoyingly, the pub chains I used to hold did well!

At least got rid of my expensive CINE at 42p to cut the loss in half!

Waiting for Tuesday with interest.....

Right, messages caught up now!
Covid testing, treatment stocks down ( as we discussed this morning ) including those that did well out of covid / lockdown like ASOS £6, OCDO £3.20.

Hospitality stocks up well, DGE up £3.24, Wetherspoons up, Marstons up, Mitchell & Butler up, CINE up,
GGP,UFO miners, precious metals down as cash less risky now, and IT firms down as maybe be an end to lockdown so less need for home music/exercise/gambling/share dealing/spread betting .... ( MCRO, Plus, 7Digital )

I thought I’d had a good start to the day.
Then after 12:00, following the Pfizer news, it went over a cliff! LSE boards down, HL showed different prices on portfolio, watchlist and chart pages, and changed when refreshed!
ASC down £6, NCYT down30+%, SNG down 50%, BUT travel shares up lots, and hospitality / entertainment UP quite a bit....

Then HL went down so no idea how badly I was doing! HL down for about 3-4 hours with NO service, no live prices for an hour or so earlier so couldn't see price or trade!

Hope the rest of you had some of the shares that went up a lot!!!
