Cross-referencing MT's ADVFN 17:15 entry:
I agree with Bootle's assessment with one addition. Having momentarily(?) failed with an Aux safety net, which is now in a drawer, I have added emerging/promising gas plays to the portfolio. Failure to take counter-measures with difficult times ahead is, if not already, going to affect family groups. It is therefore not a matter of lining one's pockets but mostly a protection of capital.
I keep a check on impacts locally - Tunbridge Wells - which is relatively prosperous: Hardship has become more apparent. Food banks are busy and needy folk are allowed to take away as much as they can carry for £2. Who would have reckoned it would become a feature of English life?
Reflecting on a 2-year stint in Barrow-on-Humber 20 years ago there was an overriding impression that surrounding villages were largely propped up by benefits, etc. I continue to wonder what burden is carried by the state.
