The Dow Jones index is still calculated by adding the share prices together and dividing by 30. So a company with a share price of $200 has an index weighting (subjective importance) four times as great as a company with a share price of $50
The big US companies have historically done periodic stock splits to keep their weighting in the Dow at 3% - 5%
Today the lowest share price of any Dow constituent is Pfizer's £38

Similarly the big companies on the London exchange mostly keep their SP in the £2 to £10 range Apart frpm Lloyds the only FTSE100 share below £2 is Vodafone which have only just dropped to that level. LLoyds were £5+ just over ten years ago and RBS did a ten for one consolidation a few years ago

Today there are only a handful of FTSE250 shares below the £1 mark and SXX is the only one below 50p

Yes there is no real reason for SXX to consolidate but the urge to conform is psychologically very powerful

So I expect SXX to do a share consolidation before we get into the FTSE100

Agreed there is a fair case for share consolidation but

why five for one rather than say ten for one? and
why in 2019 rather than 2021 or 2012? surely most funds won't bite until money starts coming in?

Thanks for all this mornings posts which have seen me through two coffees:)
The main shaft sinking seems to be scheduled for Q1 2019 to Q2 2022. Is this just a backstop figure for planning? as it seems to indicate that the production shaft may not reach polyhalite until Q1 2022. Or are they going to claim first polyhalite when the service shaft reaches that level? I am assuming they finish sinking the service shaft then move the SBR to the production shaft.
Or have I got something wrong?

In 2015 Wasps rugby club raised £35m for a 7 year bond at 6.5% - this is quoted on the London stock exchange and several of my friends bought into it.
Certainly worth a try when "plan D" fails :)

Did just that this morning at 21.4p. This may be a big mistake - but then buying at 23p and 24p way back in the Spring was an even bigger mistake - (or rather it was not selling in the Summer)
Just to keep it in perpective
SXX down 9% on the year
Glencore down 22% on the year
Vodafone down 38% on the year

which one is going up the most over the next 5 years? (no prizes on offer)
