Hi Tony,
Here is a thought.
In 2022 IntelliSmart launched their hackathon, Instinct 2.
Essentially, a call out to IT nerds, universities, business, etc anyone to come up with enterprising solutions to four challenges. There are cash prizes, and promises of a job, to develop idea for some.
They put it " invite an innovative pool of ideas to solve four critical and relevant challenges that can help bring about transformation in the power distribution sector through digitalisation".
These where
1. Re-usability or safe disposal of the replaced meters - (including retrofit!)
2. Hybrid Communication Module for Smart Meters
3. Device-level data trimming to reduce stress on AMI system
4. Develop cost-effective and indigenous solutions to achieve plug and play interchangeability or integration among CCMS
One challenge was "Hybrid Communication Module for Smart Meters"!
"Design a Hybrid Communication Module for, where minimum two communication technologies can co-exist (EX: - cellular and RF), ensuring continuous communication between the meter and the back-end system between two communicating devices, whenever one of the technologies faces a problem, the other system will automatically step up and start communicating with the back-end system.
PLCC, Cellular GPRS, LORA, NB-IoT and RF Mesh are the various communication technology options available for smart metering purpose in India. It is essential to adapt a communication system which suits to local characteristics: residential area density, infrastructural builds, and geographical terrain to construct a fit to purpose communication network. Another challenge which CC also have a solution for is the retrofit module.
In fact the video below goes through all four challenges, including the retrofit solution as part of the challenge
" 1. Re-usability or safe disposal of the replaced meters - (including retrofit!).
Potential participants ask questions about each Challenge about half way through.
8mins approx. is the hybrid communication module challenge

My thought is , maybe IntelliSmart let CC know ( before their 2021 MOU) that they where looking for hybrid solutions and Cyan introduced their cellular / rf hybrid offering.
The reason Intellismart are still looking for a hybrid , maybe because they want to also see hybrid solutions using other PLCC, Cellular GPRS, LORA, NB-IoT and RF Mesh , a wider combination of communication types.
We all know they have the solution for Rf / Cellular.
I must admit Tony, i do think along the same lines as you in relation to the market opportunity in India for CC, should be in theory much bigger than just rf mesh, as they have the option of offering cellular as a stand alone solution, or with a rf mesh back up in areas with difficult reception.
Just a thought. GL V
