Evening Chianti and CB, Yes, doesn't give a lot away but extremely important in regards to CC connections in Mumbai, which have been slow and frustrating ... looks like this may change....but when, and what are the numbers? Mumbai from memory over 650,000 connections and growing....

I was wondering why nearly everyone's turned up at the normally subdued BB today....there's been a sense of expectation here, which due to the size of the relentless buying ....is a mystery.....so Tony and someone else bought a few CC shares today, maybe that's the reason. Looking at today's sp of 11p and Fincapps recent (Jan 18) reiteration of £1 ...( well after the eesl gprs tender was disclosed, so can ignore that piece of news). .....with the target remaining at £1.... there is 90ps worth of good news expected by FC....so if /When the news drops there's plenty of room and time for all to jump in.....just hope FC know more than I do..

JC could not have been referring to EESL contracts at this time as e tenders docs were already out in June 27 requesting gprs solution....from memory look up Berlin embassy EESL Saurabh Kumar GPRS....I imagine all embassy would have received similar.

This was on page 6 of power ministry minutes from December 17 "On universalisation of metering, Karnataka stated that maximum cost involved was for software development, storage and communication for which EESL needed to do something. EESL stated that apart from meter procurement they were also involved in development of entire ecosystem for prepaid and smart metering 36. Tamil Nadu stated that they had undertaken a pilot project wherein smart metering was being done for consumers consuming more than 500 units in a month. 37. Secretary(Power), MoP stated that for smart metering, area with high population density should be chosen and the entire ecosystem needed to be developed as it would be cost effective."

Hi Chianti. Thanks and good point. So in your view it is a distinct possibility that CC could still become involved in a future ESSL tenders ...when the right spec comes along....if true that's an important point that has not been made clear, at all....as from what I hear many think CC are locked out of any EESL tenders due to the first tender ( and second) not being CC friendly.....I will have a read up as you suggest...thanks again. vAS

Hi LT. Thanks. your point is made very clear. And I agree. It looks like CC were never in the running for the essl tender/s. For some reason I thought that each eesl tender may have chosen different types of communication ...if they chose too. After reading the link I posted earlier it sounded to me like eesl procure what the utility had decided was the best solution for them. But it looks like all eesl tenders will ALL be gprs regardless.....so cc were never, and never will be involved....unless a change of direction via eesl. Gl

Forget last post ...I was interested in essl statement regarding ."conscious decision of utility" ....I though may be the utility dictated what communication eesl include in their tenders....which could change things a bit for future eesl tendrs....but found this posted 3 days ago which is another eesl gprs tender for 5 million meters. ..not sure who for...so looks like essl in charge of communicaction. ..I'm a bit slow, so u may have to make allowances now and again. Deadline is in April ....if you read spec the two standards that l&T identified as reasons for partnering with Kalkitech.. come up.....maybe L&T covering all basis for following eesl tenders....maybe to get price down so they stand a chance on price for next tender. This from Jan 18. EESL say "EESL has selected GPRS communication in the 5 mn smart meters in UP and Haryana as per the conscious decision taken by Utilities (implementation in urban area only). ". Unless it's explained to me otherwise i will assume that both company's are offering the same service....according to the two company's own reports.....so why did L&t select Kalkitech NOW and why did L&T announce that Kalkitech were selected because they can provide the gap much needed to meet the Indian standards......is this about reducing costs or something else.

What the back story is to this situation is - I don't pretend to know, but on the face of it - after years of partnership with L&T, it does not look particularly positive Imo. CB has a good point about squeezing of margins, we have seen what that can do recently ....if LT is correct and Cyan are still biding for contracts with l&T then it looks like cc have direct competition and the potential pie has suddenly got considerably smaller ....and it may not just be the L&T pie ...but the entire pie shop. I do not remember anyone here over past years identifying Kalkitech as a competitor....but here they are solving Larsens issues regarding smart meter standards that weren't sorted before......which is a rather hard to understand .....especially as CC have this capability onboard, according to the earlier post.

Here's the bit from the CC presentation. "RF mesh technology meets IS16444 (Part 1 and Part 2) and IS15959 standards (Part 2 and Part 3) for smart meters and smart meter communications in India, which have evolved over last two to three years" It begs the question why did L&T look elsewhere when they already had access to the standards via CC ....maybe not to do with standards at all.....

Regarding the "standards" that led L&T to recently select Kalkitech. I guess they did it to meet specific gaps in the L&T offering. I notice this standard is raised by CC in the clarification notes with REC. There is a similar excessive in April 17 where CC Are involved and the newly revised BS 16444 standard us a concern .....basically the reply was if company's do not comply within six months then they will be disqualified from empanelment .
