Hiring vs buying22 Mar 2024 12:26
I can see there is a confusion on hiring vs buying. I am working for a Tier 1 company more than 12 years now. We would rarely buy an equipment due to various reasons. First one is cost control. Every project has different budget and timescale. Renting an equipment allows us to determine costs accurately for our project. We would return the equipment after the completion. (also due to storage and maintenance problems) . Second point is, all these equipments come serviced and ready to use. Time is so important in these project (stand by time) , nobody has time to do any repair or maintenance, if immediate service by provider is not available, we would send it back and get a new one. So, doing a cost comparison does not make sense. Yes, you would think buying is cheaper when you think about the duration of project but it doesn't work that way I'm afraid.
Another pointless one. Diesel cost comparison. To be honest, I wouldn't bother doing any math. Big companies would use fuel cell generator powered by hydrogen even it is more expensive (well, that's why I am here) . Sorry, I cannot give you more details but we have to do all the carbon interface, sustainability exercises/workshops for each project and unless you do this properly, showing that you are on board with net zero target you would not win any tenders anymore.
