Iron ore prices are set to surge higher predicts Credit Suisse, which has upgraded Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) in anticipation.

The Swiss broker sees the price of iron ore rising by 45% over the next three years due to better demand and supply fundamentals.

Allied to expected near-term rises in the price of other base metals (copper 8% aluminium 3%), Credit Suisse expects Rio’s underlying earnings to jump by 40-60% over the next three years.

The broker adds that it now prefers Rio Tinto to BHP PLC (LON:BLT), which has been downgraded, due to its view on iron and its greater importance to earnings.

Higher demand for steel and lower production from Brazilian group Vale are behind the iron upgrade, but Credit Suisse adds that the opportunity to reset ESG concerns and its reputation under a new CEO; and a net cash position also makes it a better bet currently than BHP.

The new target price for Rio is £63 in indicating 10% upside potential, while BHP‘s target price is below the market currently at £19.

Rio has been upgraded to 'outperform' from neutral while BHP goes the other way.

Maybe their going to buy iron ore and try and get rid of the shorts?

I bought some more silver yesterday, I started investing just before Xmas anyway and got one more piece yesterday afternoon. Since their website has restricted selling products and volumes massively, looks like some are holding on for higher products, just a note, buy in EU, ship in through Northern Ireland and no vat, you then have to register it!

positive news here going forward, i like the fact the company is on the finance side of things and warrants tend to come with it.

can understand why these cant be counted as part of the overall sp due to fluctuations up and down on all shares. overtime we need to see solid investment in businesses and the divi continue to be paid.

I think so, I think they’ll be increasing divi payments and hunting next investment somewhere for the company to buy, they’ll have to in order to show growth alongside current mines.

Haven’t they just folded their divi payments back into more shares? In general isn’t this also a very positive sign? I think there going to have a huge, divi increasing year

Yes you have to send in divi certs which you can get from hl on isa accounts but not divi. Depending on how much it’s worth I’ll collect three years worth, get all the certs from hl one go and apply. Also get an accountant to help as it’s worth it. The link from Hunter highlights everything

This will boost back up again after next update, we’re still a quid above last one. If each update adds a quid we will do fine. Six dividends of around 12 cent each, problem. That would net me about £25k !!!

Good luck, if your after growth or value through divi? I think we’ve a bit of both in fxpo over time and the markets are starting to turn, looking for a little stability which considering overall risks this share isn’t bad and in comparison to a rolls Rovce, Barclays if iron ore is stable we will do ok. I’m not going to chase the 200% rise, if this hit £5 in two years I’ll be fine alongside divis. When you sell you have to know what your buying, I’ve shifted to income units, pushing value whilst we suffer the fuller affects now of covid. 2020 was the good year, 2021 maybe not.

China will keep going for sure, eu and uk may suffer but China won’t and it will drive iron ore, hit the bottom line of fxpo very well.

yes they landed mid morning yesterday in my HL account, already assigned and back in the market but not in this stock, bought a few income units in sipp and isa, i'm going for value over this next twelve months and less so growth, we have a hard time ahead once the reality of economic problems and debt do get talked about again. saying that if silver does what they say it could i should be fine also. gla

i'm just holding, taking the divi and lets see overtime where this goes. its not a total disaster in that there is a solid divi out rather than been in a stock which doesnt even offer this. 14 pence in april which i will wait and take
