I wonder also if this becomes the beginning of prep needed for more corona virus strains which means odx work into poc tests is essential for the longer term future. I am sure if created and at £10 ish each it's far cheaper to manage through these than any other lab tests.
Odx may put something together here that is used for years to come, supports and helps understanding to aid treatments just like cd4?
The second wave when it comes will also cripple the country if not many could die as people won't lockdown the same, government will have to manage differently hence the test and trace, locsl nhs, extra beds, extra ppe. They are preparing for the next phase, testing has to be spot on, the economy won't be stopped it will be done through better management with one aspect being antibody tests.
Newton spoke about a testing regime for the future not just copying what has already been done. Bear in mind far cheaper than the alternative of lockdown and second wave has to be the preperation including antibody tests, but understandably not mentioned too much to the public as yet. Pandemics have second waves just depends how big they are that's the bit to be managed.
Odx aren't daft, they have never communicated just for the sake of it, they are commercially astute and will deliver I am sure if they can
Quite an interesting daily mail article. Stating that don't use these commercial ones on the basis something else is coming and it's also got newtons name within it who is the main man in the testing world. It says they'll meet tomorrow which again is also interesting against a June date, for me this is all still to play for and we await hopefully a poc test that is approved.
More as yet to play out in total here and interesting time ahead
The ship hasn’t sailed if the POC test is created which was always the case. Newton last week on radio 4 said they were creating a testing method for the future not the past which includes antibody testing
The announcement today on Ppe I understand includes a far higher proportion of uk made products instead of everything from China, they are restocking for wave two and altering the supply routes
Antibody tests as the data improves will help individuals and nhs understand the overall risk in areas. Ie your a teacher, worried about going back to work, complete the test, have antibodies therefore happier to return.
The ship is far from sailed, the challenge is making a POC that works, no change.
Bear then in mind global, vulnerable people, vulnerable people’s families, achieving herd immunity etc etc
Lots to play for
And confirmation going to design freeze in order to support the sp here, alongside RTC we have burnet working away who are pretty good in this field.
Herd immunity needs to improve, need more of the population explode and some of the popular kept very isolated in order not to suffer if they choose
There was nothing else to tell. The government are opening back up, testing in place to see whether you have it, track and trace maybe soon, extra hospital beds primed, they’ll try and get as many people immune before October, herd immunity before the normal flu breaks.
There is no great plan, hope and pray for a vaccine also. Odx will sell POC tests as there apart of the loose plan, don’t expect logical, step by step guidance, they’ll have do nothing today bar Cummings.
There in Scottish papers and working with government, mix between POC and lab. I’m so
Interested to know where have the Elisa 46k worth of daily lab tests gone? Seems strange no update, wonder at some point if we will see a trading update?
Home testing finger prick tests cannot guarantee 100% accuracy...
...We have installed this week one of the 12 Quotient machines available and once we hit its 3,000 test per day capacity we intend installing a second machine from @QuotientHQ
Piper where do you get the 4 million number from, that amount suggests £2 per POC within reason, that’s pretty conservative overall, I think average will be higher, anyway it wouldn’t matter if this came true
We know mologic can do at least this, we are aiming for highest standard of all, against lab tests when considerate of cost, administration, logistics, time, customers;
Mologic is pleased to announce that following rigorous independent assessment by St George’s, University London and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, our point-of-need, professional use, rapid diagnostic test (RDT) for COVID-19 has achieved preliminary clinical performance data of 98% sensitivity at days 14-21 and specificity of 96%.
The company acquired Hazleton Shaft Corporation in June 2016 and in 2017 became one of the largest anthracite mines in the US. In 2019 CCI & HS merged into Atlantic Carbon Group Inc. It operates Stockton and Spring Mountain Mines, and the Jeansville and Hazleton Shaft Mines.
The government may indicate a deal with Roche, conservatively at £25 each that’s still £250 million to
A POC with correct accuracy and sensitivity trumps everything. Government will probably buy for about £5, retail sold around £10 and other costs highly reduced. So it’s all about whether the design freeze can be achieved, if it is, POC will become the test of choice for everyone bar certain studies being done by government.
If it’s nearly as good, Margin of error acceptable, cost positive, speed excellent then government will reduce lab test in its favour.
Now sir john Newton knows exactly what Is going on, knows the plan, strategy and what is needed six months from now. If the POC can be achieved government will know and plan this in,
Our biggest challenge is making the tests not selling it.
Global POC is really the only answer too. So if it gets achieved in three weeks from now, cancels out majority of lab tests we have a great future. So all the points and worry around government or Roche mean nothing, it’s all about designing the test.
Design freeze and test creation is hard, this would then support globally others and give data as the year progresses and especially if second waves appear,
The cd4 hiv test is now critical to reviewing people with hiv around the world, there is one test, cd4 is the only one
So your risk with this share from a Covid point is can they design a POC test?
What’s to say this is little different to HIV?
Unfortunately they might not find a cure for sometime, it took decades to create cd4 which supports understanding of HIV.
They might not create a corona POC for 6 months, a vaccine in five year or never? So the summary is the value can come at anytime in the weeks or months ahead or it may not? No change there, high risk, high reward so let’s wait and see.
Very important and links to where cd4 came from. They are also working on POC
Another Burnet spinoff company, Nanjing BioPoint Diagnostics Technology, will supporting proof-of-concept and validation studies for rapid point-of-care diagnostics for COVID-19 being developed at Burnet.
Our Global Health Diagnostic Development Group, led by Associate Professor David Anderson, is developing a rapid point-of-care test to identify people who have been infected and cleared the virus enabling them to safely return to work post-infection. This will be critical for key services, in particular the health sector who are disproportionately exposed to infection.
Just shows how much is going on, only one POC test being used and just shows if this is pulled off it has huge, global capability, it swipes the lab tests aside instantly.
I don’t think an update on the Elisa and mologic tie up is all priced in. I think the potential is but an announcement that confirmed phe approval, confirmation of orders both home and abroad would be positive for the sp
The POC isn’t priced in at all, bit of a rise again based on potential but a confirmed, approved, validated POC would be worth lots both for uk and global use.
The potential also that a POC has been produced that good for this virus has huge benefit longer term in corona virus terms.
Health professionals, retail customers will use a POC especially in less developed countries, similar price to cd4 currently being sold abroad? Margin still there.
The POC is extremely hard to create in these time lines but the potential is then so huge, in the testing of antibodies there will then be nothing left that can beat it. The market will be taken, you can’t get cheaper nor quicker in testing and 10 million Roche tests may only get used as and when needed for surveys etc to validate, second set Ramsey lots of POC.
The risk is no validated POC because it’s so hard to create, cd4 took years but is now extremely accurate and will not get beaten in its field. The test is administered, the persons results up loaded onto data base and medicine prescribed.
Design freeze, highly accurate POC is not very easy to make, the longer they wait the more antibody data they have supporting its creation
