TenneT Holding BV has awarded the second project under an agreement to expand wind power generation on the Netherlands’ side of the North Sea.
A framework agreement was earlier signed by Dutch grid operator TenneT, energy systems manufacturer Hitachi Energy Ltd. and energy engineering company Petrofac Ltd. The $14 billion, multi-year agreement covers six projects to connect offshore wind farms to the Dutch and German grids. Five of the projects, which are designed to have a capacity of two gigawatts (GW) each, are in the Netherlands.
Under the framework agreement, United Kingdom-based Petrofac will execute engineering, procurement, construction and installation works for offshore platforms and elements of onshore converter stations. Hitachi will supply the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter stations, which convert alternating (AC) to DC power offshore and DC to AC onshore.
The first two contracts are for the Netherlands. The first was officially announced March, for the Ijmuiden Ver Alpha project. The new contract is for the transmission station project Nederwiek 1.
