King Mohammed VI of Morocco and Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari have discussed joint energy projects and the fight against extremism during a phone conversation, the Moroccan Royal Cabinet said in a statement carried by the official MAP news agency on 31 January.
The two leaders "expressed their determination to pursue and implement strategic projects between the two countries as soon as possible, including the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline and establishing a fertiliser factory in Nigeria", according to the statement.
Buhari thanked Mohammed VI for Morocco's support in the fight against violent extremism and for training Nigerian imams.
In 2016, Morocco abandoned its longstanding objection to joining the African Union (AU) over the AU's recognition of the Polisario Front, which seeks the independence of disputed Western Sahara.
