The FMI already has a building ready to go and FAB will be taking parts of the two floors for their work, the cash grant element is around £1m, but is subject to the drawdown conditions and could potentially be worth more.
The Equipment grant £5m will fund equipment that FAB would love to have (bigger, better and state of art), but would not be able to afford. This equipment would be there to be used by FAB, alongside all the other Companies involved, the FMI will own the equipment, but that means they will also pay the maintenance on the equipment.
On top of that there are other things on offer that FAB just hasn't got access to, in the way of Biobanks and Bioinformatics, these will now be available for FAB to use (including staff that with expertise in those fields), this will increase FAB's offerings.
The FMI is a collaborative grouping and they are encouraged to work together, leading to a greater critical mass, all FABs work and development will be their own IP and not anyone else's unless a contract to joint develop has been signed .
